Chris Powell - Poor Bloke!

Just watched the after match interview, is it just me or did he have many, many more grey hairs than before the match? He said that he couldn't repeat what he said to the team at half time and Danny Green said exactly the same thing later! Sounds like Powell really got the hairdryer out!

  • he wants to get hair drying BEFORE some games .. all too often we start like mice and end like lions

Was thinking the same thing Lincs but I do feel for him. Think the last few months have really taken their toll, poor bloke indeed.
  • If 10 minutes at half time has more of an effect than however long he had in advance then he may be doing something wrong.

maybe the problem was that they weren't doing what he had made them work on in advance.
  • It's not really an isolated incident. So many times this year we've started poorly and then picked up at half time.
  • well hairdrying before games can put the team in a bad mood so not a good idea

Aw bless em, can't have the little darlings going out in the first half upset can we.
  • The necessity for the half time hair dryer is there at every level, regardless of class (a certain A Ferguson would agree). It is when you can no longer address the shortcomings witnessed in H1 that you are in trouble. It was a useful reminder with no damage done. Hopefully we'll get out of the traps quicker when Saturday comes.

..... thought his answer to the question about loan signings from Standard Liege was masterful ..... not quite sure what he was implying though .....

Can't we play the second half first ?

  • It's the only way to play....take it easy in the first half and go all out in the second. You only win games in the second half.

I've seen us lose them too!

    what did he say?
  • no one can play good football on that pitch,it made no difference who we played,we are not going to get players in on loan to play on that, that pitch is making us a laughing stock

"Looking to bring in more players, not just from Standard, but they're a side going well in Belgium, top of the league. Let's hope we can get a few more [didn't specifically say from Standard or elsewhere] and play more away games - that might be a bit more attractive to them! On a serious note, we need reinforcements, no doubt about it."

Hahaha but if you have a go at them about something that happened a week ago it can create a negative feeling. preferably work hard on the training ground and eneter with a positive attitude.

    what did he say?
After talking about the Oxford game and the state of the pitch he was asked, “ …. and finally from me, you seem to have gained a few new additions from Standard Liege in the last few days, is that likely to become a trend? Are there going to be other new players coming in, possibly?”

He laughed, shrugged his shoulders and said, “well, we’ll see, its obviously the month where we can either buy or loan, we’ve managed to bring in a couple and we’ve got to look to see if we can bring in more, not only from Standard (smiles again and explains they are a good side) …. etc…. “

I thought that he dealt with the question, which deliberately focused directly on Standard Liege very well. He seemed relaxed and in control. However, I also felt he was a bit enigmatic and he certainly made no attempt to confirm that he wanted to sign Yohann Thuram, who he did not mention by name.

In contrast, when he was interviewed about the loan signing of Asrit Ajdarevic I felt he went out of his way to make it clear how much he knew about the player, style of play, position etc., as if to say, “don’t worry, this is my signing”.

    Probably nothing in it.

Jacko described the gaffer's halt-time talk as a rocket!

And I thought it was Dowie who was a rocket scientist

No, Dowie was a rocket polisher.
