    Free coaches are getting laid on as a gesture of goodwill. It's a move that's capable of being organised and goes a little way to giving something back to some of our fans.

    And anyway, it was the refs decision to call if off, not the clubs.

    Traveled with my son (both season ticket holders). We live in from Grantham in Lincolnshire, 4.5/5 hour return trip. Also can't do rearranged night game due to work commitments and travel time. We'll get sweet FA. So much for loyalty.

    Same for me - I came from Nottingham - in answer to WSS - you need to understand that it does grate that the club chooses to compensate some fans and not others.

    But they're not. In the case of Valley Express passengers, they are offering to provide something for which people have already paid the club but haven't (generally) received, I.e return travel to The Valley. Any business would offer a refund in that situation.

    For what it's worth I drove 120 miles so I get the frustration.
  • Load of crap. The game should of been called off Friday. I wasted best part of £15 on train ticket and a couple of hours of my life. Do I want CAFC to reimburse me (I have a season ticket) - of course not, how would the mechanics of it work anyway?

    Glad they are funding coaches for Barnsley fans, correct thing to do imo.
  • Sunbury-addick. Absolutely agree regarding the Barnsley fans. But i'm still not sure why some home fans get compo. and the rest don't.

    Perhaps stop viewing it as compensation and instead a gesture of goodwill.

    As I've said, laying on free coaches is something the club CAN do. Paying back petrol they can't.

    What would you like them to do? Perhaps come up with some suggestions of what you think would satisfactory compensation for all?

    Ah come on mate - Valley Express only getting compo (as I understand it) easy to action, how would you possibly organise the rest of us - I am not interested in getting my dough back even if they would refund on sight of my train tickets - would rather have Darren Bent on loan for a couple of months than the club going thru' all that ! And what about the chancers that would put in moody claims - no, forget it

    I get you 'ish but my anger is somewhat fuelled by the response I got today from the club to my complaint about a needless trip from Nottingham.

    It's signed by your mate Bradshaw and tells me at length what will happen re: Valley Express and for the Barnsley fans but doesn't address my specific concern.

    Obviously they've still got me as a customer because you sign that contract for life but it's lazy customer service.

    I was thinking maybe offer a discount ticket to a cup game. Oh! hang on, i see problems with that.
    Or maybe a free (cheap) ticket for a friend, for all season ticket holders and anyone who has the original Barnsley ticket. It has the advantage of potentially bringing extra income into the ground.

    Also, my understanding is the free Valley Express service for the rearranged game is for anyone, not just those who took the service for the postponed match.

    You only get free travel if you can prove you were travelling on VE for the original fixture.

  • Maybe everyone should just live on Charlton Church Lane although I'd still suspect people would want compensation for the rubber wearing out on their Reebok Classics due to the wasted walk.

    Some good ideas there Daggs, they could also be applied to any game though to bring in the extra income.

    Think the club have learnt from this debacle, I am confident it wont happen again (famous last words)

  • I was thinking of going to this game but decided not to and went out with the Mrs as 1. She told me to and 2. Charlton are awful

    Had I actually made the journey then I would naturally expect to be compensated for not only my lost time but also my lost money. Can I also claim anything for my wife as she would have had a much better day if I hadn't been there. And what about the rain splatters on my coat? FFS

  • I got a headache when trying to tune the radio in for the game, changing channels, the crackly sound in between, the stress at finding no commentary anywhere only to be told at 10 past 3 that the game was off!
    Do I get compo from cafc or radio rentals coz they cost me an extra £3 for the anadin which I hadn't bargained for
    And I'm all the way down in deepest sussex
  • Daggs makes very valid points and offers some sensible and easy if not indeed cheap suggestions by way of compensation to all home fans. Quite why folk are taken in the club's " it's all the ref's fault " spin is beyond me. The club assured us the game was on and didn't have the common sense to get the only person that mattered to inspect on the Friday or Saturday morning. If it were any other industry we'd all be spiitting feathers. I love the club as much as anyone but it doesn't excuse that debacle nor remove our right to some kind of recompense.

    It isn't great but look at the upside
    For years we've had the cheapest season tickets compared to relative clubs and plenty of decent ticket offers ,so I'm sure we're still in credit

    And personally I'd rather we kept some dough
    OUR club made the wrong call to not put the warnings out of potential postponement and let's be honest the longer journeys would all have been made because the ref would have wanted ,possibly , to give the pitch as much time to recover and called it off late anyway
    But it was OUR mistake in hindsight , therefore I believe compensating Barnsley fans is the right thing to do but as Charlton fans OUR chuff club didn't read it right so we have to wear it in the bum , we're in this together aren't we ?
    And yes it's easy for me to say because I wasn't inconvenienced but if I drive to Donny/ Wigan next week and either game is called off late because of a wrongful call by those clubs ..... Of course I'll be gutted but unfortunately we've just gotta take the rough with the smooth
    The club could have compensated the Valley Express punters who can't make the next fixture anything else would cost far too much and be unmanageable
