  • For the old'uns, Len Glover and Mike Kenning.

John Sewell was national schoolboy sprint champion.

add Warman and Curtis to the old uns .. and Peter Reeves was very quick over a short distance
Wiggins (already mentioned) is quick as is Church (speed alone is not everything lol)
Newton, Mills and Rufus have already been mentioned as has Rommedhal

Can't recall too many speedsters from the late 70s/80s
  • Kevin Lisbie was quick too.
  • Alan Ellis...
  • Souleymane Diawara!
  • Haynes was a straight line runner, and Shittu knew it, so it was easy for him to step across Haynes run and block him out.

Darren Bent. Just remember that murderous acceleration against Birmingham in the last minute

Was sitting directly in line with that. Defender was mario.melchiot who was never regarded as particularly slow. Bent made up ten yards on him in 20 yards

Melchiot looked like he was running up a down escalator in comparison!
  • Bent vs Melchiot was definitely one of those "yeahhhhh fuckn' ave it!" moments. Fortune vs palace was another.

  • Scott Sinclair has got some pace.
  • Remember seeing Rufus catch Naylor for Port Vale when he had a 10 yard start on him. And he was seen as quick... One of the funniest things I saw on a pitch was Den against West Brom when the full back tried to keep up until he put the afterburners on. The lad just stopped. Was like watching an old episode of Road Runner
  • Seem to remember Jerome Thomas being pretty swift. Saw him go on a speedy run up the left wing and finish with a lovely goal at Hillsborough.

    Pity it was for England.
