I suggest the Oxford game is postponed until 25th that we give the ground staff 10days to get the pitch in a playable condition, the gate would probally be bigger, Charlton fans will need to get their football fix as it would have almost a month without any football except for the Heros who are going to Middlesbrough,
Move it to Oxford. Call off Bournemouth and Birmingham now and get the drains sorted.
It would be good to know how difficult this will be and the level of upheaval. Surely a Surveyors report has been carried out already ?
If it costs more than 50p then I doubt it.
I would be quite shocked if knowing that the drainage had collapsed that there is no assessment or report completed outlining what needs to be done to fix the problem and a rough cost. If so, it shows the real neglect that has been going on at this club over the last 18 months.
Ideally the work would be carried out at the end of the season, is it possible to do it now ? I am not a groundsman, is it worth considering ?
It will be interesting to see what happens next. First big test of / for the Duchelet regieme.
Can the FA make a ruling on this and what are the rules, for instance could they tell us we have to play on a certain date and to find a ground to play it on.
No... Crawley only play in a League beneath us (a League which we were in only two seasons ago) and had their FA Cup 2nd Round cancelled twice (or was it three times), yet just because we're Charlton and because once however many years ago we were a Premiership team we should be frowned upon if ever a game is cancelled.
To save you reading, everything is up to the FA. We can't say "We are playing it at Welling" or "We've rung up Oxford and it's getting played there" or "We can't be arsed, we've told Oxford the short cut to Huddersfield".
I'd have no problem with Welling or Dartford or Ebbsfleet being our next first-class venue but the FA might.

I think any change of venue needs to be agreed with the FA - would they really object? Hopefully someone at CAFC is working out the options. It's very clear the pitch at the Valley needs a "rest" and attention - as others have pointed out winning the cup tie at Welling or somewhere would give a month to sort the place.
I wouldn't want to concede the tie or play it at Oxford as I want a win and progress in the cup this season!
We wouldn't be allowed to go to Welling or Ebbsfleet (Dartford's pitch is pretty ropey at the moment too) so it'll be the Den or Upton Park, the better bet would be to do as NLA says, and play it at the Kazam
If we can't get it in on Tuesday, it will be the THIRD failed attempt. If I were the FA, I'd be putting Oxford through as a bye if that were to happen again.

The Den or Upton Park does it for me - the lads need a game and we could do with a cup run
It is extremely doubtful looking at the pitch that it will be playable on Tuesday. Some leadership would be really helpful at this stage. The game should be played at Oxford. Sort it out quickly and announce it. Proper leadership needs to be shown about facing up to the problem of drainage and the likely problems for the rest of the season.
If the pitch needs to be dug up then maybe that's what needs to be done if it is feasible at this stage of the winter. It would be really nice to have some upfront honest no bullshit communication from the club for a change.
If we were to do that, apart from anything else, we would be undermining the cup. It seems that we have little choice, being a football club that has to play football, but to sort the issue out and quickly. Obviously, that doesn't mean getting a lush turf, but a playable pitch has to be top priority.

These things happen...

4647, I think we should pull out.
