On the other hand we said the same about parky when tj and co took over and it didn't turn out too bad.
Sounds a bit inevitable from that, I feel for cp, top bloke, charlton legend, has been managing (alrightish) with his hands behind his back and deserves a fair crack of the whip
The comment about having players on the bench last year, who could make a change, is spot on. Bar a 15/20 goal a season striker I think we have a decent 1st eleven, but (bar JJs intervention yesterday) little in the way of impact subs like Fuller and Haynes could be last year.

The difference being that with Parky, he didn't quite prove himself enough whereas Powell has delivered a title and a decent finish last season. I truly hope that Powelly stays with us for a long time regardless of where the club ends up playing!
I am sure that any new owner, at least one with the faintest idea of and respect for the game, would give Powell a chance to seal the job and build another successful team .. question is, will the new bossman be a wise and prudent man ?
Ousting SCP would be a great way to immediately alienate themselves to supporters but as the likes of Tan have shown, a lot of these blokes couldn't really give a monkeys about that.
It's a bit of joke given what he's achieved with us that the poor sod is seemingly in a position where he is still sweating about his job. I don't really get it, I would have thought that we'd be the ones shitting ourselves every time a new job came up in the Prem or Champ as he would be so in demand. He's had a terrible time of it this season in what must feel like a dead end job in football management terms. If he wasn't such a loyal, dedicated and unassuming bloke he could easily have put himself out there a bit more and get a better job.
I genuinely wouldn't swap him for a manager in the world for us. Mourinho Ferguson whoever. Powell is right for us, like Curbs was, and given half an opportunity I have no doubt he will succeed.

I would say that the difference is that CP has a very strong supporters backing and has been backed vociferously by the crowd whenever he has looked in danger.
Parky had little backing from the crowd, despite working under similar financial constraints as CP.
Forget, just for a moment, about Chris Powell's strengths and weaknesses as a football manager and coach. That's for another day.
As a MAN, he has 100% integrity. He exudes loyalty, passion, caring for others, treating people the way they should be. I have never felt greater respect and admiration for any man, in football or otherwise.

I disagree. He has managed brilliantly with his hands behind his back. If we sack him we might aswell volunteer to be relegated.

I suspect Powell will be given a chance. Why? Because it makes sound business sense - there is reason to believe he is an excellent manager and the fans love and support him. What also makes sound business sense whether we like it or not, is to give Chrissy the 6 months remaining on his contract to earn a new deal. So that in itself is the uncertainty he faces - but all managers are a bad run away from the chop anyway and with the opportunity to bring players in, and the support of the fans that Powell has, I'm sure he can make it a good outcome for all.
longest serving manager in the Championship.... He has only been at club for 3 years!
And the smallest transfer budget. Especially given that we get £1M+ a year from sell on clauses from Jenkinson etc. Funny how it takes Charlton to show everyone it makes sense to stick with the same manager for a while - Lawrence, Curbishley and now Powell must have manged 3/4 of the last 30 years?

Pass me the Kleenex - you need to get out more, or read a newspaper! He's a nice man but, read your words again...please!

Perhaps a bit over-stated Andy, I concede. But I was trying to draw a distinction between a debate about his qualities as a manager/coach, and his qualities as a man, which I think are truly admirable. You may disagree, but I don't really care.

I've met him and agree with you - just not the whole 9 yards!

Shows the state of affairs in the championship then.
Shows the state of affairs in English football to be honest
Indeed. He's the 10th longest serving manager in league football. Out of the 92 clubs, less than half have had their incumbent manager in charge for more than a season. Madness.
Although sometimes I don't agree at all with some of Powells tactical decisions , he does get it wrong - he is young , I have thought would we be better without him ? When we have been at our lowest , but no way would I want him gone , he brang charlton back from the dead , it's our club as much as it is his , Powell wouldn't turn his back on us - and I'm sure I won't and you all won't and never will I hate seeing new owners come in and sack a manager straight away , give him time under a decent budget , then see what happens , 6 months later if it doesn't work out ? Fair enough atleast he had a chance ! Powell can do wonders with this club charlton feels like charlton where he is concerned
Let's group together and defend the man that gave OUR charlton back
He has an affinity with supporters that is outside of the ordinary. Of course a new owner will want to be convinced he is the best man for the job. That is reasonable. The fact that he is loved and respected by the fans gives him a real chance, and I'd rather have the chance under these circumstances if I was Powell than be safe in the role because the board can't afford anybody else. An extremely important time in Chrissy's career and Charlton's future- but he is a winner and more than up to the challenge I suspect.
