we are toothless in attack at present and unless we get strikers in we will definitely go down to Div one. Kermorgan is not the player he was for reasons unknown, Sordell is not going to be given a chance by CP and Church is a poor finisher. In absence of funds CP has to recall Smith and give Piggot a run albeit I doubt they are the answer.
Unfortunately, Piggot offers less than Church. Giving Sordell a decent run seems the only option imo
Can't see us going down, I think Powell will get us going, couple of wins will kick start a run and the league is so tight. Solly back, Kermorgant back to full fitness will be big lift. I do believe a fair few players have rightly got the hump but think they will get to a point when they accept it's not going to change and make the best of it for their futures away from Charlton if nothing else.
If we stay up, it will be narrow and after one heck of a scrap unless we see changes at all levels, and soon. CP is still the man in my books, we've got players with heart if not skill, relegation is by no means a certainty. That said, we have to hit a run of form like we did last season, as of all the teams around us at present, there is a fair chance that one of them will start stringing results together and that could leave us deep in the smelly sticky brown.
Goals are the thing that can keep us up but where the hell are they going to come from? I always think if you lose 10 home games then you deserve to go down. We are well on course to lose far more than 10 at home!

Sorry, I very strongly disagree. Joe offers 30 goals plus last year, and allowed to play with Kermogant scored 3 at Welling in the first half. His instructions from Mr. Powell were 'go and make a nuisance of yourself'' against Millwall, hence he was all over the pitch. Just tell Joe to play off the shoulder of the last defender and work the channels, you will be rewarded with goals. Also if you play him with Kermogant just behind, Yann will do the rest as he did at Welling.

3 goals against a mid table conference side? Surprised Chelsea haven't lined him up to replace Torres.
I thought he was cack against Millwall, totally ineffective. Slow, weak, poor first touch (ran the ball straight out with no defender in sight) and didn't win a single header. He is not ready for first team football.
looking at the fixture list, 8 out of our next 10 games are against teams in the bottom half of the table, having to play 4 of the bottom 6. Somehow we have to make sure we win most of those, but more importantly we don't lose them.
However - this team doesn't not have the fighting spirit like previous CAFC teams & until we bolster our meagre attack we will go down.

fighting spirit of previous teams???
it was only last year that we were saying how although we don't have the most talented team in the division, at least they have a bit of balls about them and the team spirit appears to be excellent.
you compare this side to the Pardew/Parkinson era, they are like lion hearts!
I agree about the attack point though. Without scoring goals we are in trouble.
16 goals in 20 games is the reason that we are in deep sh*t. Clearly Powell is at a loss and doesn't know what to do to about it.
Of the 16 goals that we have scored at least 4 of these goals are contenders for goal of the season. Wonder goals are great but no team can keep scoring them. Charlton are not scoring the "bread and butter" type of goals. The simple tap in goals, or winning any penalty's.
Chris Powell only appears to have a plan A, there is no plan B. Opposition teams know this and play us accordingly. We are toothless in front of goal and despite lots of huffing and puffing around the penalty area the opposing goalkeeper rarely has a save to make. Apart from a couple of games such as Notts Forest when we had about 8 good attempts on goal, most games only result in about 2 shots on goal and often the keeper doesn't even have a save to make.
Teams that don't score goal, don't win matches, and teams that don't win matches get relegated. That is reality and unless something changes quickly we will be relegated
I agree that lack of investment and the problems behind the scenes are at the root of our problems, but Chris Powell's tactics are also a major concern.

He had a bad game but he can play much better than that. Kermit has just had 5 bad games but he won't get dropped.
if we don't start scoreing goals we will be going down,so lets go 4-4-2,this will at least get us scoreing even though we might start letting some more in.If the teams around us get some good loans in we will be well up the swanny
Barnsley, yeovil and donny would be my 3 for relegation at the moment, but ther will be at least 3 or 4 more in the dogfight including us. Offer me 21st place now and i'd bite your hand off.

Tha arithmetic is rather scary. Based on last year's table we will need 37 pts from the remaining 26 games. That's a tough ask for a side that is so far avergaing less than a point per game and has scored fewer goals than any other side in the league.
Not impossible. But if Powell can pull it off, it will be a Houdini act up there with Lennie's great escapes of the late 1980s.

Ridiculous to compare to last seasons table on that basis Leeds only need 35 points to get in the play offs from 26 games... Last season was a one off 68 points won't be enough for this seasons play offs and 54 points will be more than enough for safety this season I think you'd be better off basing it on the average of the last ten seasons tables

Will be a slog this season but do not think it compares to Lennie performing heroics keeping us up.
I think Barnsley and Yeovil will go down but spanners and wendies have forwards who will get them out of trouble,it could be Middlesbro will have big problems and hopefully not us
OK, stato. Last season it was 55. You say this season "'54 will be more enough". Still seems a very long way away from 18 when we're almost at the half way stage, don't you think?
If Powell can get us out of this one, he will deserve his knighthood!

Ok if you wanna quote me "more than enough" is what I said so 54 will be more than enough , meaning any number below and including 54 will be more than enough ..... I'll make it a lot easier for you to understand where I'm getting at 2013........55 pts keeps you up 69 for the play off 2012 .......41-76 2011....... 43-76 2010....... 48-71 2009........47-75 2008.........53-71 2007.........43-76 2006.........43-76 2005..........51-74 2004.........52-74
Meaning the average over the last ten years to guarantee staying up (excluding goal diff) was 47.6pts .... For the play offs 73.8
So 30 points from 26 games on average would be what we required from here on in to survive , which I believe will be nearer the required mark to stay up rather than last seasons number
So the anorak analysis says we need 'only' another 29.6 pts?
Ten wins would do it. Six wins and 12 draws would be OK. But even then your stato nirvana offers no guarantee that will be enough - the consensus on CL this time last year was that 50 would be adequate to stay up and it wasn't.
Whatever your boffin's spread of graphs and projections and averages and per centages says, oohaah, it requires a dramatic improvement on the first half of the season.
My fear is that with no new owners and no money for the necessary two new strikers in the January window,it will get worse, not better, as the clock runs down on contracts and the uncertainty reaches critical mass. But I hope you are right. I really do!
Well there's no guarantees on anything but I'll wager 48 points are enough to stay up this season and a charity bet of £20 to The Upbeats if you wanna wager it wont be
I'm not saying we'll get em either and without help it will be a big ask !
