  • Thought he could have been a name to pop up for the back to the valley dinner. Has more of an Everton legend status though I guess was his prime. Really good player.

Loved that video some great tackles and taking a bit of Ronaldo's leg, he deserved worse for that hair. The best curbs years were great.
  • didnt he score the goal that saved Everton from relegation in the last game of the season against Wimbledon?

Yes and also got an fa cup medal a 1-0 win over United, hit the crossbar someone else got the rebound, they love him up there.
  • Friend of mine used to work in a bar that the Everton team frequented. Said Stuart was a gent

Yeah when Hans Segers arm kept forgetting how to extend , the old dive with elbow near hip !
I think Everton were 0-2 down and won 3-2
  • Watching that Ronaldo video ...
    Wow
Will those wonderful prem days ever return
  • Saw him a few times on the Premier League's own channel broadcast over here but not for some time.

Very important player when he was with us. Probably under-rated.
  • Used to get a bigger cheer at goodison than half the Everton players. Didn't they all shout for him to take the penalty when we list four one up there?

Apparently, Graham Stuart's wife has a reputation for being able to handle herself!

One season when we were in the Prem we'd (me, Dad, brother) somehow got tickets in the corporate level at Everton, dinner, drinks the lot. Our seats were directly behind Mrs Ferguson and she had some, I assume her, children with her. Anyway at one point these kids started acting up - it didn't last long, it was the most effective yet frightening parenting I've ever seen - and I was raised by Glaswegians !

  • If my memory serves me well, i was having a beer with him and he spoke about the time Charlton were 4-1 up at Highbury, when Kinsella turned to Stuart and said "keep it tight, we might get a draw here".
    We won 4-2 (i think).

Lots of Man Utd fans asking the same question
Oh Henry, talk about kicking a man when he is down!

Apparently, Moyes is a strict teetotaller, bet he could do with a drink after the week he has had.....
  • Really underrated player for us. Very few seem to mention his name when talking about our Premiership years which is strange considering how many appearances he made and the important goals he scored.

    What does he do now?

Wikipedia page doesn't give much away he was a good servant to the club, underrated.

I know he was into Motorsport.

Sorry but I disagree. I don't know anyone and have never seen a post on here or elsewhere that has anything but praise for his time with us i.e he was very highly rated by anyone with half a brain. Same goes for Chelsea and Everton fans too.

One of my favourite ever moments was created by him.

CRonaldo was relatively new to the premier league and was doing stepovers galore. He absolutely roasted Graham so he unceremoniously just booted him up in the air and accepted his yellow card.

    It was superb

    I thought that was Kish?
Kish hit Ronaldo about 5 times before getting booked. Stuart didn't even bother with the minor amount of subtlety. Stuart went for Ronaldo like he'd kidnapped his wife
Now I remember. Kish chopped him down by the goal line near the box. Stuart's was over but the touch line, correct? Damn, my memory is failing me!

Please enjoy this series of brutal assaults. Stuart's no-nonsense approach is at about 3:55. There's an incredible tackle from Kish at 6:55 but he finally upsets the ref at 7:04
Great tackle. Was well outside the box but with Mike Riley reffing a Man Utd game I'm surprised he didn't give a pen!

  • Played golf with him a few years ago at the London Club. It was a Charlton day of some sort, might have been Steve Brownes testimonial golf day? Anyway, great golfer and a really nice bloke. I was playing like a muppet and he was playing to his 4 handicap. We got at a par3 and Kenny Samson appeared with Sky news cameras. They didn't film me, I hit my only good shot of the day to within 3 feet. He hit his only bad shot of the day and scuffed it 50 yards along the floor. He was gutted by Samson said he would show it regardless of how much Graham offered him.

Ha! great stuff. I remember that game and thought Ronaldo was just a show pony who would be sussed by defenders and disappear into obscurity - shows what I know!

I remember singing "You're not the real Ronaldo!". Turns out the real Ronaldo wasn't the real Ronaldo and this guy was.

  • I remember a game at Everton, think it was in the New Year and Spotty was on his way to Chelski. Graham Stewart, who was held in high regard to the Evertonians, and we are down as our best midfielder was leaving when Graham scored a brilliant goal to help us win the game.

    oh happy days
  • Remember Kish talking about this game and saying "Ronaldo never got passed me. The ball did but he didn't"
  • As great as it was, I find it depressing watching that sort of video now when we are where we are!

  • I used to manage a boys football team & after playing golf with Graham he agreed to do a training session. As we trained on a Friday it had to be when the Charlton played at home & on a Sunday.

He was great, the kids loved him, he was going onto speedway next & said he couldn't have a drink because Curbs didn't allow it that close to a match. We persuaded him to have one pint (Guinness) as a thank you. He said that if he had a bad game on the Sunday it was all our fault.

On the Sunday he hit that superb ball that Bartlett smashed in to win goal of the season!

    Happy days.

Fantastic. I remember Ronaldo diving all over the place in that game and Gary Neville and Giggs having a go at him fore it. Something Neville speaks about in his book. To be fair, he soon adapted and is now the best player in the world.
  • He was a terrific for us, not that I saw a great deal of him as I was abroad for much of his time with us. The idea I have of Stuart is of a model professional who always gave 100% at every club he played for.
  • He went to the same school as Chris Powell in Raynes Park. Absolutely true, because I attended a Q&A with the two of them there, hosted by their old sports master. My oldest son used to go to the same school, you see. Anyway, I too loved Graham Stuart. Didn't he cross the ball to Bartlett for his goal of the season against Leicester?
  • I have a signed shirt from his playing days. 99/00 signed by the team if anyone wants it for a nominal fee let me know.
  • One of those players who is really well thought of by the fans of every team he has played for. Came to our pub a few years ago and was a really nice bloke too.
  • remember seeing him at Everton in the New Year when Spotty went to Chelski. Stuart had a great game and scored a goal, which I think was the winner. However as an ex Toffee he was still applauded by them as well as us.
    A true professional.
  • Dad played golf with him one night. I was around 9. I was in the bath, and got a phone call. Was graham Stuart. Yes, I spoke to graham Stuart while in the bath.

Yeah we beat them 1-0. I remember hoping that was the act of defiance at Parker leaving that would see us carry on doing enough to finish in that top 4. Think the next game may have been a home loss to Bolton that bought me back to reality!
