It should be part of law that you have to like football - and you should be forced to read Fever Pitch. I love away days and experiencing the ups and downs is so hard to describe to a "non believer"
Yes! However, is it really worse than someone who replies that they are a 'massive' Liverpool fan, but can only name 3 players and doesn't know the result of any of their games this season.
How many things are you good at, that you don't like?
I was a decent salesman for years, never enjoyed it. Don't quite see what relevance that is to what I wrote though Stu?
If someone hates sport, it seems quite obvious that they may not be very good.
I am not good at sport, but I love it. I can't paint, but I love art, I can't write but I love literature. I genuinely don't get the point you are making Stu?

this.
I've been watching the snooker but I know I'm shite at playing it. same with pretty much every sport. not bad at rugby and for the size of me that's surprising but as a winger I knew when to run like hell before the big guys got a chance.
I enjoy cricket but I've never played a proper match in my life.
I love music but I can't (regretfully never have had the patience) play an instrument.

That's not the same thing at all.
When you said "He was also absolutely crap at sport himself - which I often find is a common denominator in those that claim to hate it..."
I read that as he "claims" not to like sport because he's crap at it, I think a fairer reflection would be that many people like him are crap at sport because they hate it.
Loving art but having no talent is not really the same as having no desire to be good at it.
When he leaves the office on Friday night have a dump in his drawer.
This actually happened at our work. We had a do in the office and one of the members of staff had a dump in the Managing Directors desk. There was all hell to pay when the MD found it. Everybody knew who did it but nobody grassed him up. The MD never found out.
I steered well away. All the people at the party were summoned to his Office and cross examined by him. But we all pleaded ignorance. I don't know who cleared the jobby away, not a pleasant job.

Not made myself very clear then I guess ( except to Karim ) what I am trying to say is that I think a lot of people who don't like sport have an ego problem - they are poor at it so therefore they dismiss it. It's a chicken and egg situation and you and I are looking at it from different directions.

"So who do you support then?"
"oh, I don't really like football"
