Can someone tell me where Yann is supposed to be playing at the moment?

I know he is dropping deep to link with the midfield but there have been a number of crosses in the last two matches where he has been stuck out on the wing rather than in the box where you would expect him to be dangerous.

I love the bloke and this is not intended as criticism in any way but I am genuinely puzzled as to what his role is meant to be at the moment.

Was wondering the same yesterday, surely he should be running channels through the middle and not keep going out wide?
  • Think this is just a Charlton thing, other than Mendonca our 'strikers' have always been pulled out wide.
  • Don't think he is fit (match fit) at the moment, he needs more match time.
  • Would've thought Church should be the one to drop into the wings and leave Yann in the box to receive the crosses.
  • We have an un-orthodox front two. Church at centre forward is a front running striker with pace, but no heading ability or hold up play. Kermorgant is a second striker with no real pace but good heading ability. It's usually the other way around.
In yesterday's game, McCarthy played a tight defensive line to limit Church's runs in behind. They had two tall Centre Backs who were able to out jump Kermorgant. So Yann pulled wide to compete against the full backs on high balls and dropped deep to collect the ball. His flick-ins were ineffective and the service to Church was non-existent because McCarthy worked out that shutting down Stewart & Stephens stopped most of the through balls he runs onto. That's the way I saw it anyway.
  • LG good question. There was at least 3 occasions in the first half when YK himself was putting in a cross to the box for someone to head it. To be frank they weren't particulary good crosses and the chances of someone getting their head on it were pretty romote. On the basis of yesterday it was difficult to see much evidence of sound coaching, tactics or positioning.
  • Church has got the versality and speed to run the wing, just needs to get a half decent cross in and Kermorgant can do the rest with his strength. Think CP got it a bit wrong yesterday, need Yann back to full fitness, Jackson in the middle and pace and fearlessness from the wingers, get crosses and you will cause problems. You can't break down teams through the middle all the time.
