Reads more to me as if some key players are unwilling to commit until they are sure the Gaffer will also be here. That suggests that contract discussions are under way for at least some of them but that they are waiting for CP to be settled, not the other way round.
Which is what I Suggested on the thread regarding players whose contracts are running out. The two go hand in hand. Players may be reluctant to sign if Powell isn't around & Powell wants an idea of what sort of squad he'll have next season...........
It's now 139-7 for Chris Powell to get a new deal at #cafc. That is overwhelming support.
95% in fact. Pretty much the same as the Trust survey, if I recall.
But how many don't knows/don't care given our average attendances? The 146 seems hardly representative but hey what do I know!
Yep, 146 self selecting represents nothing! But 100 more a day each and every day for a few weeks and a random sampling at the Valley would tell the story. There are don't knows and even a small minority who think CAFC should find someone new in the summer but a large majority of 2,252 fans last May agreed or even strongly agreed with Powell being offered an extension.
If I were a CP supporter I'd sign the twitter petition...if I wasn't a CP supporter I wouldn't bother to sign negatively. However, If I were stopped in the street and asked, I'd give an answer one way or another. Bottom line is, a petition of this kind on twitter will never be accurate.

while it is true that such a poll isn't fully representative, your premise is not right either. if the mood were generally negative, it would be the anti's who would be piling in. Think McLeish at Birmingham for example. So while I wouldnt say 95% is an accurate figure, I would say the poll is an accurate barometer, and few other championship managers would get such a good score from the same type of poll.
My instinct is that forum members are generally (a non quantitative expression) enthusiastic towards CP whereas the regular VFR attendees are somewhat less committed than forum activists and the fall in attendance this season may indicate that others have been less than impressed by the quality of the football on offer.
As an activist I'm possibly in a forum minority in that although I greatly admire the gaffer as a man and acknowledge his motivational qualities, I have to say that the quality of the football served up is somewhat attritional and have a gut feeling that other managers could produce teams that were somewhat easier on the eye.
But as they say, football is all about opinions and how boring it would be if we all had identical homogenised opinions.
I think we have a lot to thank Alan Curbishley for for our support of our manager. We've seen it go badly wrong and we know the grass isn't always greener.
It never is m8 but there must be more than one manager out there in the big wide world who could do a good job? It would also help if the Board didn't appoint a manager on the single premise of pi55ing of Palarse.
Personally I think Chris Powell and his team are maximising resources, including having to be somewhat constrained in the style of play. A new manager, if it was the right one (big risk) might be able to add, what, 10 or 15 percent? I doubt even that. Would losing Chris and the attendant shenanigans and disruptions be worth the potential gain? Personally I don't think so, we are lucky and I feel proud that Chris is our manager. If not Chris, then who? 100% support from me.
In my time as a supporter the three best managers were Lennie, Curbs and now Powell. We were to some extent lucky with all three as none of them had any significant managerial pedigree before Charlton and all three improved their standing immensely in their time here. You can safely assume all three started off being paid less than most managers at this level.
The point is that if we were to lose Powell we would need to be lucky for a fourth time. Not all cheap managers turn out to be diamonds. Surely it does make sense then to secure his services, even for owners who don't want to make long term financial commitment (if, as it seems, that is the case).
I'd love to see Powell given some funds to strengthen the squad in this league instead of hunting around for freebies. He's done well imo to get the best out of the likes of Dervite, Haynes, Wood, Cort, Church, Yann etc who no-one wanted or needed before they came here.

And we all know what he managed to do with a little bit of money in League One.
