edited November 2013 in General Charlton
East Kent Addicks are proud to announce that tickets are on sale for our 'Back to The Valley 21st Anniversary Dinner'.

Our annual pre-Christmas dinner has a very special theme this year, with a number of ex Charlton players and officials joining us for an evening of reminiscence on Thursday 5th December (7.00pm for 7.30pm), the 21st Anniversary of that special day when we returned to The Valley after those many years of exile.

Tickets are now on sale priced at £25 for a superb 3 course dinner, including carvery, plus tea & coffee, at our usual venue of The Kennington, Ulley Road, off Faversham Road, Ashford, Kent, TN24 9HX.

For more information please contact John Commerford on 01303 814766 or email ekaddicks@talktalk.net.

Please see the attached flyer below, made especially for us by the CASTrust.

  • The event is open to all Charlton and football supporters, their wives, partners families and friends. What do I do with my hubby?

You can bring him along as well.

Dress him up in one of your dresses.

  • There has already been a lot of interest, so to prevent disappointment book early!

What? Just because my hubby is going to wear a dress?
  • Obviously!
  • Tickets are going fast and we are expecting to sell-out, so book early to avoid disappointment.
  • Really gutted that my school's Christmas Carol concert (of which my class are the main part) is on the same night so can't go to this dinner. It looks to be an amazing event - hope there's another one in years to come!

Its a confederation of groups, and as I understand it the aren't rivals, all sit on the fans forum

    Bromley
    NWKA
    Eltham
    East Kent
    West Sussex
    Hastings
    CADSA

Maidstone - who do not attend the FF

    Not sure on status/currently sleeping

    West Country

    City Addicks

    Essex

Then there is the VIPs who also attend FF meeting
  • No-one from Hastings has ever come to FF meetings.

Ditto for Maidstone CASC who razil missed out.

CADSA IS a SG but VIPs cannot be classed as such.

But not entirely, mon petit choufleur ...

Hastings CASC do not send a rep to the FF either.

  • Any feedback from the meeting this week with Ben Kensell and Steve Bradshaw?
  • They said the East Kent lot were much friendlier than 'those tossers from Bromley'
  • Well, Covered End and Richard Redden is a tough crowd.

any use of S******** the A*****?
  • BK only 'sweated the asset' once - said he was embarrassed by the response he go about it (I assume from on here).

Talked like a good marketing man for the whole of the first session. Seems to have bought into the Club and is very enthusiastic.

Confirmed the catering was a mess (after experiencing the crap customer service himself) and existing people were too comfortable. Changes being made and planned.

Disappointed with some of the deals made previously - not a lot they could do, due to existing Contracts. Trying to work with Nike and the Club shop so at least they can sell programmes and DVDs there. Unhappy with low sales - particularly the kit. Feels we can do much better.

Guy from Andrews was there - very happy with the deal (confirmed as costing more this year tha last by BK). Long term fans and a local growing firm.

BK felt he could get far better deal on shirt sponsorship - though happy to stay with Andrews over a longer period. Would never deal with sponsors of 'dubious character'. I asked the question if Wonga offered a few million a season would they change their mind. Didn't get a straight answer!

BK working on real partnerships over several years. Felt the returns were there and were important with FFP coming in.

Felt they could do a significant deal on Stadium naming.
  • Thanks Nick, I thought the Andrews deal was 40k down on the season before but must have got that wrong.

Stadium naming - that will be a can of worms although I personally haven't got a problem with the XYZ Valley

    Did SB not say anything?
  • SB different kettle of fish in the second half.

Dismissed the leaked sales document - intially he said he hadn't seen it, but later said he had discussed it with MP. I thought he might be prepared to answer questions on the VoTV article, but obviously he wasn't. Felt like he was caught on the hop and questioned it's authenticity.

Was pretty vague about the Peninsula option but made the point that "Are we satisfied with being a mid table Championship Club, or do we want to get where Clubs like Cardiff are?" Didn't push the point.

Said he spent most of his time dealing with the training ground development - but didn't really clarify how far we are from the position a couple of years ago. Said it's very important to taking the Club forward though - and I can see why. Again, this is on the cusp and the final details are being worked on now.

Question on CP and players contracts. Sounded like a bit of poker playing with the players but said a few deals were currently being done and we should hear some more in the 'next two or three weeks' - which is different from what was reported at the Eltham night. Lots of players at lots of Clubs are in a similar position - the player merrygoround may be a big part of FPP in the future.

CP "completely happy" with his own position.

Chair pointed out that communications with the Club have improved significantly over the passed few months and felt that the availabiity of senior staff was now more evident. Particularly at the Fans Forum.

I'm sure there were a few other bits and pieces which other attendees may want to add. DR asked a few relevant questions - particularly about ongoing funding of the Club.

The East Kent bunch are really friendly and I will continue to support them - let's hope the Branch grows and grows as the committee are obviously very dedicated and put a lot of time in putting these events together. The Kennington is a great venue as well.
  • Oh - and SB spoke about getting bums on seats as the most important thing we as fans can do. An extra 500 on the gate 'will make all the difference'.

Not sure how an extra £10k a match would make all the big a difference when it comes to negotiating players contracts (which SB hinted at), but might make a difference to SBs own targets.

    .

If the document isn't authentic it would interesting to know how the club could explain the level of previously unpublished detail about its 2012/13 accounts in the Voice article, key aspects of which it has subsequently confirmed to be accurate in the programme.

Judging by the figures published in Saturday's programme the club is only selling about 2,000 home tickets a match on average, which is poor even by our standards. An increase of 500 would probably be worth about 7k a game, which is £161k a season. Of course it also drives other revenues.

Obviously ticket sales are significantly affected by what is happening on the pitch, but there is more scope here in my opinion than in commercial deals. No reason you can't do both, of course, but in my experience commercial people tend to be more comfortable doing deals with other suits, which is the whole reason club development came about.
