Should of had a hattrick and still nearly missed his goal
From my great position in the East Stand it looked to me as if he took his time, was composed and cooly stuck it past the keeper. Great finish. Don't see how he nearly missed it.
The keeper had already committed himself. The ball went in off the post. On the other three occaisions we hit the post the ball came back out into play.
As Lennie Lawrence once remarked after my namesake had missed two sitters against Man City at Selhurst Park in cica 1990, "If he could put chances like that away regularly, we wouldn't have got him on a free from Fulham!".
Similar logic applies to Church, in that if he was a lethal finisher and capable of 20+ plus goals in the Championship, then he wouldn't be playing for us courtesy of being released from Reading.
Not to say that he can't/won't improve over time, but that rather like the team itself he is a work in progress.
I sometimes wonder with Church if when he's rushed into shooting he'll genuinely miss / fall over - I said to myself in the first half that if he were to get a one on one with the 'keeper then I reckon he'd score...

Can't fault his effort tonight that's for sure.
I think he waited and waited and made the keeper commit himself. So what if it went in off the post? Jesus Navas scored a blinder for Man City at the weekend, sorry no he didn't it went in off the post.
Love the guy for his efforts but being absolutely realistic, can't see him being a prolific goal scorer. His running makes up in part for his less than impressive finishing and average hold up play. Moving the defenders around is half the job and he goes for the spaces but doesn't seem to win many one on ones when he battles for a ball. He should have buried his goal with his head last night, and I thought he did, in all honesty he got lucky. But long may it continue and may I be proved a very poor judge of potential.

To be fair, I was level and it was behind him. Worked his socks off and deserved his goal. The bloke deserves to score more - hope he does!

Ran his balls off more than normal last night.
