If you could pick anyone to manage CAFC, would you still pick Chris Powell?

Reamsofverse, 10 year contract with part time chairman position as well.

Can just see it now Reams calling for himself to be sacked & then beating himself up for daring to suggest it....
Easy to be a smart arse from behind a keyboard

It's tongue in cheek mate - have you not read some of the other responses? No need to get all steamed up.

Not only from behind a keyboard but on another continent - am I safe? LOL

    Any snow yet Oakster?
  • No, Martinez, laudrup or Brendan Rodgers, for the football they get their teams playing
  • Not if you r

Indeed. CP is a class act and I would not wish for anyone else to be at the helm.

Wow you're so easily pleased - can I pull your name in the CL Secret Santa?

If your twisting my arm for a name, then look no further then Alan Pardew or Dennis Wise, only so we get the chance to go back to Hartlepool, and take a few more fans this time.
  • Chrissy for me because no other manager would take all the hassle that has been thrown at CP. Plus, although he is still learning ( like all other managers), he has got that extra something that makes him very special, he's a full on decent human being that no-one has a bad word about. Daft to throw away the PR factor IMO.

Even easier to have a sense of humour and realise its tongue in cheek.

I felt, with the history between certain members and forums, it was far from tongue in check - just my view. It was a sarcastic post in the first place.

I would prefer a manager that was a winner than a nice bloke, only saying. I don't see what being nice has to do with anything. Hope there is more about cp than being nice.
  • he is a proven winner as well Chris Powell as well as a nice guy
  • he is a proven winner as well Chris Powell as well as a nice guy

Exactly , it's prolly too hard to comprehend that he can manage to be both
  • It's taking me 4 days to open this pointless thread, please no further responses to this. He is getting on with the hand he has been dealt move on.
  • Well at the time if you had asked the question I would have said Fergie/Guardiola/Mourinho. But now ... Is there anyone in the world who could have done a better job? No, not for me. SCP all day.
  • Given our finances and everything etc I don't actually think anyone would have or had done a better job than Chris Powell up to this point.

Fergie, Jose, Wenger and all that are used to managing high profile clubs with lots of money, it wouldn't work they would not be suitable for the vacancy.

If Fergie was forced to manage Charlton as a slave and could not leave the club, then as a manager he is the best and I would pick him.
  • Mervyn Day please. Lol

My point, admittedly not made at all clear, was that it's because CP is such a decent guy that, despite lack of funding and support, he has somehow managed to just about hold a threadbare team together and may yet save us from relegation. He hasn't walked out on us, that I would suggest is more than our current owners deserve and more than a different manager is likely to do. We have owners who don't care one jot about what's happening on the pitch or about players contracts, so right now I think we need the qualities that Chrissy possesses more than ever.

Quite correct, a Charlton forum is hardly the place for an open discussion....

You heard the guy, no more responses please chaps.

    oh yes, sorry. ;o)
  • Th equestion should be - Is Chris Powell the best manager in the World? If you think the answer is yes, of course you wouldn't pick anybody else to manage us, given th eluxuary of being able to chose anybody. If you think the answer is no however, the answer has to be no. It doesn't reflect badly on Powell though!
