goals that would have made the difference if they'd gone in

newton against liverpool in the cup at the valley when it was 1-1...went so agonisingly close, and it seemed to happen in slow motion...and matt tees at arsenal in the cup when he hit the post...

  • and not forgetting, lisbie at watford...
  • Andy Reid against Fulham away the header or lack on one.
  • Was it Andy Hunt? Who was clean through at Liverpool and the ref stopped the game to give us a free kick. The game ended 3-3 with Steve Jones scoring near the end of the game.
  • forget the lisbie miss at watford, bask in his hatrick glory!

Robinson was fouled in our own half and the ref stopped Hunt's run.

Have never seen Robbo go so mad- and that's saying something.

Isn't that the one were Steve Jones celebrated the goal by crushing his "veg" into the corner flag?

    Yes.
  • Mortimer's penalty that hit the post in 98/9 against Leeds (or was it Leicester?)

Redfearn's penalty against Forest same season.
  • The many, many shots that hit the post v Blackburn in '58. We lost 3 - 4 last game of the season when a draw would have taken us straight back up to the old 1st div in blackburn's place. May have changed the whole history of the club and avioded 40 years of decline. Also think we missed 6 or 7 pens that season.

More recently Robbo shot from 3 yards at Bolton in the cup QF in 2000. Would have got a reply and beated Bolton in it for a Wembley Semi Ditto Kins shot that hit the angle from 30 yards in the same match.
  • i was just about to say Robbo at Bolton as well, our best chance at getting a semi final
  • Any of the numerous chances we missed against Boro in the cup at home.
If we'd have won that one, we'd have got the final, Curbs would have stayed and things would be different, very different. We'd probably be bottom!

  • Kim Grant's run on goal away to Man Utd in the cup, if Red nose hadn't of choped him down surely the result would have been different

...too true, parker (the man utd right back) was being given the run around that day and it was only by taking him off that they tightened up at the back...of course, that early goal straight into the second half didn't help...

Gazza when he slid in about 4 yards out in the Euro 96 semi against Germany. How F***ing close, it slid across his studs!!
  • Lineker against W Germany Italia '90 - the shot across the face of goal.
  • Chris Waddle hitting the post near the end of the 1990 semi-final
  • Sol Campbells disallowed header against Argentina at the 98 world cup
  • The John Barnes "offiside" goal against Germany in 90. There were 1 yard squares cut into the grass for gawds sack so any mug could clearly see he was a whole square behind the defender.
  • Easily Morts missed penalty 98/99, convinced we would have stayed up if we had won that game.
  • Darren Bent, clean through at Wigan this season when we were 2-1 down and coming back strongly. If he scores that then its 2-2 and all to play for and we might have got at least a point and maybe even a win. Of course, as it turned out, the keeper saves it Wigan break and score from a free kick at the other end. If we had got a draw up there would the board still have gone through with it and sacked Dowie on the Monday? Earlier in the season, Bent's miss when clean through at Newcastle, again, if he scores that and we win would Dowie have been given more time?

2 missed penalties (one against Wombles at Sellout on Boxing Day) and a Dwight Yorke goal sent us down

  • boltons missed penalty this year. was 0-0 at the time and 10 versus 11 at the time (i think). we wouldn't have recovered from that.
also from this season that watford bloke who missed from all of 3 yards.
and didn't man city (joey barton) hit the post then the rebound bounced up into carsons arms.
them 3 games gave us most of our points for half a season.
  • Bentys two sitters against Boro in the cup.
  • Gary Lineker's "header" against the Argies in 86 - still convinced to this day he was fouled.
