Denis, what a legend. I remember well the Denis chant. I have seen him recently at games. Must have been on your ST Richard . Does any one remember Mark Pitts and his mates with the white boiler suits ala buster blood vessel. Then there was mark pitman, how many times was that guy nicked for D&D or fighting. And to think I went to cubs with the guy.
There's a bird in the directors' box whom I have studied in BedsAddick's photos: long blonde hair, cream-coloured coat, elegant features. Pure class - far too good for the likes of Jim Davidson. I imagine she is named Ffiona - with two 'f's - and owns a riding stables in Pratts Bottom. Who is she?
I remember Denis from the mid 70's funny bloke, we always had a laugh with him and he loved the "Denis is our leader" Chant. Still cant recall the guy who was always going off in the covered end....stocky guy about 5.10 dark curly hair and a bit of a wonky eye...always in the thick of things when it kicked off...."borrowed" my mates new Charlton mug to smack a Preston fan with.

I know who you mean with the wonky eye Tel, good looking bloke!, Kevin Kavanagh something like that.
The fatties were a little bit older than me. It was always good being in their company when the going got tough. Notably St. Andrews play off final versus Leeds. Enough said. Those brummies didn't know what had hit them.
80's away fans might recall a youngish leather-clad motorbike man called Mike. He had a bit of a cropped beard but shouldn't be confused with the older leather-clad motorbike man, with grey beard. I'm sure Mike stood as a Conservative councillor somewhere.
Only leather clad away fan in the 80s era was a short ginger haired fella. Quite greasy looking with acne. Went by the name of lucky. I'm making that up.

Despite opposing political views I got on with Mike and we had some good natured political debates on away trips.
I think he stood for the GLC in 1984 in Lewisham West in a by Election as an Independent Conservative. The Tories did not put up an official candidate because they dismissed the election as a stunt so Mike put his name forward as an independent without the Party machine behind him.I have seen Mike at the Valley since we returned in 92 but can't remember a recent sighting.
I haven't seen the other gentleman mentioned for at least 20 years and no one in the Seb thread seemed to know what happened to him.I think he lived near Dartford Heath as I got dropped off with him on an away coach from Tranmere in the early 90's in Bexley Village,Indeed that is the last time I know I saw him.

Thanks Richard....I knew I hadn't imagined him. He was always really upbeat about Charlton and was always there even when we were taking less than 50 to some games, like Newcastle & M'Boro.

The reason the By Election occurred was because the Government had abolished the GLC and the four Labour members in the most marginal seats voluntarily resigned and fought By Elections as a protest.
As i said above the Tories dismissed the process as a stunt but Mike felt so strongly that their voters should have a candidate that he stood as an independent Conservative.
I tried to look for the election on the internet to post a link but there is no record that I can find.
It used to be great in the 80s. Turning up at the station buying a ticket and not knowing until you got off the train how many were going to the game. Police escort straight to the ground. Get beaten them escort straight back to station. Leicester was always an interesting walk.
Addickted told me a great story about Dennis on probably the only time I failed to attend one of our many away games at Shrewsbury's gay meadow in the late 70's/early 80's.
The ref refused us a penalty and as previously mentioned, Dennis was not backward in giving refs his opinion where it differed from theirs. He went right up to the front of the square wire mesh fencing behind the goal, launching a torrent of abuse. When he finished, he turned round, but his glasses were now stuck in the wire mesh fencing! He staggered around, like he was punch drunk as he was very short sighted.
I can confirm that Dennis and his friend took the Notts County end on their own in the mid 70's. It was only 1.30pm at the time though and there was no one else in the ground over then those on the first away fans coach.
I hadn't thought about Dennis with the black-framed spex for decades - didn't he have a limp, from polio perhaps? Another stalwart from the 1970s was a rather attractive peroxide-blonde bovver girl who used to drink in the pub on the opposite corner of the Woolwich Road from the Antigallican. What was her name? And what was the pub called?
I don't know to be honest but she wasn't as old as people thought, I think Jean was about 15 years older than her younger brother, which would have made her about 65 now.

She got better with age.
Ronnie Moore's minder.
Saw him a couple of times in the Prem years.
The Seb thread covers much of the same ground as this one and discusses other legends also.
