Que Sera Sera

Words in this song Que Sera Sera go something like this Que:
> What ever will be, will be,
> The future's not ours to see,
> Que sera sera,
> What will be will be,
As Charlton fans these words have this season a disctinct resinance, and as I sit typing this prior to the Millwall game, not only do I not see a result in this match either way, but also "the future is not ours to see".
I get to the Valley when I can (living abroad) and when I do I catch up with old friends who have worked for the club for many years. My visits take me both the the Valley and training ground where always I am so very impreesed the the professional set up and any training sessions I see. Look at the succes of the Academy set up, very few better this. Then I both listen and observe the feeling around the Valley, its not inspiring and it is quite apparernt that these little or no money at ther club.

There is little or no money at the club, it is not only a Charlton problem and most clubs out of the "Sky Financially Controlled" premier league, has it's, has had it's, or will more than likely have it's finacial problems to live with and hopefully resolve. So out we bring the pray mat and hope our wishes are met by those from foreign shores who can bring bounty and untold wealth to eliminate our financial burdens. But this has a price attached in itself. What the price is cannot be judged but there is always a price to pay, look at those clubs around us that have been so called "fortunate" to attract foreign investment. You may well be able to assess the prices of assets such as the ground and playing staff, but how do you price the "heart and soul" of the club".

I live abroad for most of the year and there is marked differnces in what I shall call "cultural perspective", this works both ways round. Couple this most local football fans wear shirts of the top four English premiership clubs. Not once in my time here have I seen a Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Burnley, and indeed Charlton shirt.

Say to a foreign investor that they look to visit Hartleppol or Grimsby on a could November day, when they will hopefully see a father take his son at 3pm on a Saturday (not 4pm on a Sunday or 8pm on a Monday - beacause "Sky" television tells you thats when you will play - if you what the 'Wonga"), and to start to appreciate what footbnall supporters really are and what our National sport is all about. (Not just the clutch of clubs that make up the top five of the "Sky" Premiership)

We have a board or shall we call it "senior management" that based on lack of comminication I can not say is doing a good job or not. Listen to so called rummors about the club being paraded around they City of :Londons investment corridors at 40miilion, sounding like off loading by those who do not have the heart for the fight ahead, or indeed in the Club, and that their initial involvement being based on return of investment criteria.

This could be unfair. In which case it would be nice for some clarification albeit it may have to be measured so that other issues, unkown to the rank and file, do not get compromised. Good management does this, ignorant or arrogant management does not. (Pick from that last statement what you will).

Some say that off the field issues should not effect a players performance at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon (or when "Sky" tell you when you will play), but they do. Put yourselves in the players position if similar finacial/managerial uncertainties where prevelant in the company that you work for. It does affect you.

So on finishing, I say lets, as we always do" support the Manager, Coaches (they are good at what they do - and are getting better) plus the players in these uncertain times, and hope that soon that with all good grace and hope "Que Sera Sera - our FUTURE WILL BE OURS TO SEE."

  • If I had to do a shot every time you slagged off Sky Sports in this piece I'd be very, very drunk !

I really don't think it's as simple as saying Sky have killed English football, the games more popular thant its ever been even despite the myriad of other distractions now available. If you look at English football pre-1991 and now then many things have changed infinitely for the better. Some have clearly changed for the worse, but I'm not sure the entirety of the blame can be laid at Sky's door.

No... Sky have along with the Premiershit / FIFA / UEFA killed football!!
  • And the FA. Next step is to give up hope completely and become a feeder club.

One thing that I thought of the other day...

Idiots like Benitez have pushed for "B" Teams to be introduced into the Football League, why dont they just create a non-League team i.e. AFC Liverpool (Poor example as they exist) and then loan all their reserve players to that team

For the first couple of years they'd have to make their way through the pyramid but eventually they'd make it into the Football League for sure?
  • So someone gets drunk on 3 shots - must be powerful stuff. Let me know what it is and I will try it myself. p.s. There other points in the article that where raised, perhaps a re-read may be useful. PeterH
