with two charlton players in the england squad and

one that had to withdraw because of injury...and marcus bent being dismissed by the westham/spurs hacks at the times this week as not good enough for england because he's a 'journeyman' so, if they reckon that, he must be better than even we've been giving him credit for lately and probably is good enough to play a front man role for england...and then theres the likes of ambrose and thomas who at times look good enough to step up one day...just made me wonder that when everybody was assuming curbs would be england manager one day was it missed that in fact it was the charlton squad that could potentially be providing the nucleus of the team one day, and not the coach...though there is pardew of course...

see there you go missing the point again...the trouble with england is they put all their eggs in one basket in the form of one player is our key up front (invariably the fat boy who usually does a mean impression of the parker 360 degree turn and lose the ball or hit the ball out, or crouch) who has to act as target man, win everything up front, hold the ball up, create the chances and, oh yeah, score...and then there's lampard and gerrard, when they're not getting in each others way, who are supposed to keep it solide just in front of the back four while winning everything in midfield and attack the goal and shoot on sight, and oh yeah, score...is it no wonder england are crap most of the time (sure we win games but nobody's ever convinced about the manner in which we win)...what's missing is the type of play that players like marcus bring to the team...they act as a foil to your key goalscorer and take a lot of the workload off their shoulders so that they can concentrate on the main thing you want them in the team for in the first place...scoring...
  • Marcus Bent is barely good enough for our team, let alone England. Ease off the drugs.

  • Very true, just unsure whether his yts wages would cover the expense of a travel card to wembley !!
  • a boy like that would walk through the dead sea to play, you should no that glass.
  • Didn't he play in some sort of Jamaican squad at QPR along with Euell ??? or am i have a day dream ?
  • that buggers england up if thats so,also spoilt my friday.
  • Doh !!! sorry !!
It might not be true. If it is we can add him to the link about GREAT charlton players that should have played for england. (or is that the link we are on ? i've forgotten )
  • a true legend never to sadly grace the england shirt, sadly never gets to grace a charlton shirt much, though im sure kev will be ok for that long overdue testimonial
  • Need a respectable 10 seasons for a testimonial, so in 9 and a half years at the tender age of 26 he will be able to accept the sold out Valley applause gracefully !!
  • but you'll all be cheering when he gets another hat trick against Liverpool in May :-)
  • hopefully he wont be playing.
