My shopping list! Very appreciated thanks Carl.
  • Good List, Carl. You've cost me a few quid to add books 2 to 5.

    A couple of others

    Not Biogs but

Theo Foley - Fit for the Game: Soccer

    Matt Holmes - Coaching Manual
  • John Moston - Diary of a commentator, makes reference to visiting Bromley Addicks.

Alex Ferguson Diary of 94 95 season - makes reference to the youth cup game at The Valley and how he was well looked after

Thanks for digging that out Stig - good to know my memory wasn't deceiving me. The interesting question is how did LeCarre know about the Antigallican?

I might be able to assist with this one...

John Le Carre (real name David Cornwell) has a younger half-brother, Independent journalist Rupert Cornwell, who is a Charlton fan. I remember interviewing him for the Valley Review when he was the paper's Washington bureau editor.
Many thanks Matt. talk about the wisdom of crowds. I shall keep my eyes open for Smiley lookalikes at the Valley on the future - sitting in the West stand so as not to look too conspicuous surely?

  • Alec Stock - Football Club Manager is on Ebay and some of the listings reference Charlton, but as yet I have not been able to confirm Charlton content. Does anyone on here know?

Don't know the book I'm afraid but he did play for Charlton during Jimmy Seed's time so feasible that there might be some content.

Any aspiring manager at that would have had to go a long way to find a better role model than Seed.
  • On the subject of Lennie's book, here's a review I wrote a few years ago: http://100books2010.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/4-lennie-by-lennie-lawrence-with-kevin.html

I note that the Charlton Life review linked to at the end seems to have since gone missing, although the thread that it sparked is still there: http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/29476/new-article-lennie-lawrence-book-review

Footballing lives - it's a compilation written by Matt Baker and former joint chaplain Jeff Heskins. A very good read, but don't expect a load of eye opening revelations, given the confidentiality assumption in the chaplain-player relationship.
