FIFA World Rankings (Sept 2013)

England down three places to 17th. Wales are 52nd, the Republic of Ireland 59th, Scotland 63rd and Northern Ireland are 86th.

Not looking good for WC draw seeding if we progress.

    No but we don't deserve to be top seeds anyway...weren't we 2nd seeds for the 2002 World Cup and got Argentina (beating them)?

    Probably a fair reflection of our quality at the moment. Only beating San Marino and Moldova so far doesn't really help our ranking.

    British and Irish football (at international level) is in a pretty bad way right now, fairly accurately reflected by the world rankings IMO.

    Columbia are no longer the best team in South America! But it's alright as Valderrama is dying his hair pink for breast cancer awareness.

    17th seems about right to me. We certainly don't warrant a higher position .

    The rankings are a bit of a joke. uruguay are struggling to qualify for a start but apparently they are 7th in the world!

    agree we've been poor lately but surely they must take into account past performance in world cups when seeding?

    Wins against Poland and Montenegro will help.

    I think you get more points for beating a higher ranked team, surely that weighs it in favor of the South American teams where the big sides play each other in competitive games more often than the big European teams would play one another ?

    Belgium are very underrated. Look at their squad.

    ...Not in terms of their FIFA Ranking, more in terms of their perception by the public.

    Once every human being on earth has declared that a team is "underrated" (as must now have happened with Belgium) are we allow to agree that they are, actually, rated ?

    Once every human being on earth has declared that a team is "underrated" (as must now have happened with Belgium) are we allow to agree that they are, actually, rated ?
    They'll probably never be 'rated' until they actually do well in a competition...

    Bookies have them being one of the favourites for the world cup though so I guess they're not that underrated anymore.

    Uruguay were 4th in the last world cup and are current South American champions.

    Northern Ireland lose to Luxembourg and 2 days later go from 109 to 86 in the rankings, a rise of 23 places.
