Catering

What's the best general catering you've seen at football? If we get enough info together and tell the board what people want they might cater for that and make a bit more money!

- when I was drinking I thought the plastic bottles at the Emirates were fine. Easy to prepare for the catering staff, no money spent on plastic glasses and no skill needed in pouring etc.

- at Wolves they had a catering van with a tandoor in it and you could get a freshly cooked naan with chicken or veg curry. It was wonderful.

- price everything to the nearest 50p, reduce the need to carry lots of different coins, easier for fans to have the right money to hand.

These are two to get us going. I would also add not all vegetarians like cheese and onion pasties/bakes - what about pizza slices or proper veg pasties.

  • I've never once experienced any decent catering at a football game. I remember when we went to Fulham in the cup, I'm pretty sure they were charging almost £5 for a burger, and it wasn't even that nice.
  • They need people walking round selling bottles of beer like at Fulham. Not for £4.50 though
  • Plastic bottles I'm assuming?
  • German sausage.
  • Norwich-'Yellows'
  • I haven't been to the Amex, but don't Brighton do something with their catering that's a bit more imaginative than most?
  • The cheeseburger at Southampton was lovely. The one at Swindon wasn't
  • i skipped lunch and this thread is making me really hungry
  • Pizza at Southampton (veggie-friendly) was good.
  • Used to love the meat & potato pies at the northern grounds (barnsley, blackburn etc) years ago

They add a gherkin and about £1.50.

Considering how much everyone had raved about their catering prior to our visit last season, I was very disappointed.

OK! I heard that Brighton do something fancy like stock beers that are local to the opposition that week....

  • yeah.... London pride...
  • I've never been to Spotland, but aren't Rochdale's proper pies cooked in old-fashioned ovens legendary?
  • Morecombe's are supposed to be amongst the best pies in the couuntry let alone at football grounds .
  • yeah.... London pride...

Ha! And I don't mean fizzy John Smith's is on when Brighton play a team from Yorkshire. I'm sure I read somewhere that they get in some local brews specially for the opposition supporters.

Same sort of thing but Cardiff bar staff were wearing Charlton shirts.
  • I was impressed that Colchester sell little bottles of spirits.
  • Oh, and we should get those balti pies that Wallsall have.
  • Hope we get drawn to Morecambe one day then!

  • I'm amazed that despite everything that is, apparently, going on there are some people who still want a falafel or tofu catering option provided for them!

  • Had an awesome Cornish pasty at Plymouth once and at Exeter we had Dominos pizza
  • Went to see Charlton play FC Roda a few years back. No money was taken over the bar or eating areas. When entering the ground you purchased a card from a booth, various amounts ie £2, £3 etc. A bit like the old BT phonecard. At the food/drink outlets beers were already poured out, food was ready. You ordered, put card into a terminal and it deducted the price. Took no time at all to get served and away. No one handling your money then wrapping a grubby mit round your pie. Works well for home fans as credit can be used at next match. Simple.
  • Can anyone tell me why we cannot provide catering at Academy and U21's games, there were about 80 to 100 + at the Palarse game last week, sweltering day late lunch ko and the window would have easily taken £2.00 to £4,00 off everyone for food and drinks and this is not a one off occurrence. It's poor show we cannot even employ someone for a few hours and swell the academy coffers on a regular basis...gripe over :)
  • Commonplace in Germany, fans can top up fan cards in local stores as well as at the ground, buy tickets, membership, even season tickets on one piece of plastic, light years ahead. Yet Kidderminster did the best pies IMHO - Norwich not bad either for some odd reason!
  • I'm not sure what the best is . Maybe the pies at Burnden Park back in the 80's or the burgers at MK dons but what I do know is that we have the worst catering of any football club I have been to. It's truely appalling .
Dreadful service , horrible beer , no pies and pathetic choice of food .
Whoever is responsible should be ashamed of themselves .
  • Didn't think the pasties in north lower were to bad Saturday

I said this to one of the officials, and he told me they couldn't open the kiosk because the indoor cafe had to be open for the players. I didn't see the logic, but the cafe down the road is very good.

Patience, Danny: patience. We'll scrape a draw at The Valley, enjoy the pies at Morecambe on a wet Wednesday night and lose in the penalty shoot-out.

Skip the tofu, give us some spicy chick-peas in batter, and I'll do the Falafel Shuffle.
