  • Very speedy Muttley
  • It's on a knife edge - tension is killing me - you know it makes sense TJ
  • If we were Blackpool and we'd just signed Fuller, you'd get a load of fans dribbling on about he'd been binned by Charlton. Ince has to talk up his new player. Can't believe so many people get into a spin every time one of these daft threads emerge.
  • Think fuller to blackpool has been on the cards for some time.

We're all waiting for a takeover, doesn't mean that it's gonna happen soon.

Don't get your hopes up. We have been here before, apart from the Dubai last minute fiasco, Parkie also had a player lined up to sign and was told to hold of because of the take over, after which he would have more money and better players to select, only for the takeover to never happen and the original target to have signed elsewhere.
  • Manana, that's when it will happen, manana.
  • Mañana nver viene
  • Still a very strange thing for both Ince and Powell to have said.

    Not in the slightest.

Powell hasn't the funds to sign Fuller

Fullers agent touts him round clubs

Ince is keen, phones up Powell for the usual sp (is he fit, how does he train, what sort of character, why you not resigning him etc)

Powell said he wanted to, but there's no funds, waiting for a takeover etc)

I actually think this means a takeover is/was imminent. If he had meant 'We wanted to sign Fuller but don't have the funds' that's what he would have said. That's what he said last season when we missed out on a couple of players because we didn't have the budget. He specially mentions waiting for a takeover to take place, you wouldn't say that if there was next to no chance of it happening. If he did mean 'at some point in the future' he might as well have said 'We are waiting for Prince George to be old enough to get interested in football and buy our club'. There must be some substance behind it to make it worth referencing.

That substance might be, as Henry says, the failed bid earlier in the sumer but it does imply a bid was close enough that he wasn't able to spend old money in case new money didn't approve.

When was it that Ince said this?
  • A lot of over thinking things in this thread I reckon.

but we know this because they settled PV's claim to clear the decks and when the take over didn't proceed they stalled on settling as previously agreed

Oh we know this do we? Pray tell, how do we know this? As far as I was aware all we know is that the club settle out of court and then didn't pay promptly. The reasons as to why are conjecture. For example, they simply might not have paid until they were threatened with legal action simply because they wanted to piss off the claimant. This is also conjecture and I am not in any suggesting it is true. It could be any number of other reasons.
Speculation does not become fact just because its is on Charlton Life.
  • What is the issue here?

I don't see anything wrong with Powell telling to ince that RF is a good player and would have kept him if he could.

He couldn't keep him as he didn't have the funds to do so as we are waiting for a takeover?

Isn't this what we've known for months? Where in that quote from Ince does he imply we're currently in a take over deal/due diligence etc?
  • Sorry to wheel it out again but.......

    Nice picture
  • Paul Ince shouldn't be talking of a "take over" at another club in his position. That bit he should keep quiet. If another manager tells him another manager something like that then that manager who was told of such info needs to keep it away from the public demain. Hope it doesn't scupper the prospect of much needed funds.
  • We must be well past the 11th hour for this to happen now. It's obvious Powell is not happy with his squad and it seems until some fresh investment is found he's stuck with it.Something I fear would enrage him to the point of walking away,as so many around him already have.
If it happened now it doesn't leave us long to get deals thrashed out.If you've got an endless pot then it's possible, but if the budget's tight and you need to negotiate I'd say it's a non starter.Add that to the fact that the squad wouldn't have had a healthy pre-season together, current players need to re-negotiate new contracts and the whole episode away from the pitch is a farce. The losing mentality has already set in.

I'm sorry, but if you were a potential buyer, and you saw the situation you could possibly inherit(all for 40 squillion quid I should add) I think you'd run a mile.
  • It'll be interesting to see Slater talk his way out if this one.

We'll just take Pince to court - seems that's where Slater is at home and Jiminez seems to know his way around one these days too

Not sure he needs to to be honest. Its all heresay from someone who has no link to the club as much as we would like them to at times. The club aren't going to react to every rumour out there. Slater said in the program how things are so i don't see why he needs to react to this one as well. We know they are looking for investment and until there is anything concrete i doubt very much we would hear anything definite. As exciting as all this speculation is, its also very frustrating and worrying as well, especially when things dont' materialise and rumours of demise come out.

Even if something did happen imminently there is no time to add to the squad significantly even if the new investment brought that capability with it
  • Be very careful and watch your back CP. In the words of Ronan Keating, you say it best when you say nothing at all.
  • This thread should've been killed long before Ronan Keating became the voice of reason.

  • AddickFC81 - it has been in the news for ages that we are looking for a buyer. Waiting for a takeover/Looking for a buyer what is the difference?

It's in the public domain already that we are skint and need someone to buy us. It's not like he said "they are currently waiting for a takeover deal to go through, that is undertaking due diligence" or anything like that!
  • Massively blown out of proportion this thread, clear that Ince meant we're waiting for one.
  • Telling that SCP is starting to publicly speak out a bit more though. How much longer will he put up with it or will TJ and MS sack him if we don't win one of our next two league games?

On the other hand , maybe he feels more confident and able to speak out without being sacked etc because a takeover is close ?

Because that's a quote that rolls of the tongue.

Not clear to me. The thing is, it doesn't mean anything is imminent, just to me that something is going on. Indeed if it was imminent, Fuller may have been persuaded to hang on.
