Stars on show for charity cricket game
    WRITTEN BY STEVE WOLFE
    WEDNESDAY, 14 AUGUST 2013 08:30

Ever wondered whether former Gills players Danny Spiller and Steve Lovell can play cricket? Well, now is your chance to find out
They’ll be joined by the likes of Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders, former Charlton Athletic defender Richard Rufus and Ashes winner Geraint Jones for a charity cricket game on Wednesday evening.

Lots of Kent stars will be on show for the Special Charity 20/20 Cricket Match which will be in aid of Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Teens Unite Fighting Cancer.

In what will be a great evening of family entertainment at the historical and idyllic Leeds & Broomfield CC – with its 250 years of cricketing history, Soccer Elite and Pro Stars will take on Martin McCague’s ex Kent & England Leeds & Broomfield All Stars.

There will be live commentary on the game with a BBQ serving throughout plus a children’s tuck shop to keep the whole family catered for. Brooks Bar Hire are kindly donating their services to provide the bar and catering for the evening.

Entrance is just £5 for adults and a £1 donation for children – all proceeds on the day split between both charities.

Your entrance fee includes a strip of raffle tickets for signed memorabilia and great prizes on the day with ample car parking available on the day.

Having organised the event, Soccer Elite’s Stuart Bell says he and all the players are looking forward to getting out there and playing for two great charities:

“It’s come around really quickly and our team are certainly looking forward to it, although there is some nervous anticipation. Ultimtaely, the whole thing is for the spectators to raise as much money as we can for the two great local Kent charities.”

“I think we can honestly say Geraint won’t have seen batting like what he will see on Wednesday night!”

Despite it being a game for charity, Bell went on to explain how both sides will be taking the game seriously and there is a lot of pride to play for:

“It’s a bit like the Ryder Cup – there’s no money at stake, but there’s pride to play for and footballers are footballers and they like to win.”

“Likewise, the members of Leeds & Broomfield Cricket Club in their 250th anniversary will want to win as well.”

With the idyllic ground overlooking Leeds Castle, it is anticipated there will be a decent crowd to come and watch the game and Bell is hoping the fans come out in force:

“Martin McCague is going to be skippering their side and there will be plenty of banter flying around!”

“We’re looking at making this an annual event and we will do anything for charity. We’ll be giving it a go to win it, but ultimately it is all about having fun.”

Meanwhile, George Davis will be playing for Leeds & Broomfield and he’s looking forward to the chance of playing against some stars:

“It should be a great night and we’re all looking forward to it. We’re not used to having a crowd come and watch us, but we’ll be really up for the challenge.”George Davis

So why not bring your family, friends and colleagues along to enjoy this great local event in support of two great local charities?

Gates open at 4pm with the game set to get underway at 5pm so come along and join in with the fun!
