Should we have a stand named after Alan Curbishley ?

  • Perhaps if he's keen, a cheaper and more fitting tribute might be the award of a lifetime's season ticket.
  • if he is a friend of Varney then he wont be allowed back or want to come back I doubt whilst TJ and MS are around
  • We should name a stand after our first ever England international.
  • What about "The Conservative Club Stand" in memory of the service it provided in helping us get through some horrendous times with its saucey liquids?

Perhaps we should re-name the whole ground The Plum Bowl.

Yes! Or in twenty years' time if we've still got our teeth we might be able to say: "The Obika Arena".

  • Yes, but not yet.
  • Let's imagine we didn't have the Curbishley years - I wonder what the ground would have looked like.

Or how many would be saying how good a chairman Richard Murray is

Curbs made Murray and Charlton look great , the chairman and model club
He carried us and when he went , a year earlier than his contract had him finishing Murray even turned down his offer of helping find a replacement (Curbs's choice was Mick McCarthy)
Murray said he didn't want a manager with only one year left on his contract .... Well I'm sure he's pushing hard for SCP to get out the door now or sign a new contract

At some stage Curbishley should have a stand named after him, not sure when the appropriate time would be prolly when he's a lot older and we know for sure he's not gonna be back with another club
  • I have no opinion on this matter. Just wanted to be post No 100. Woo hoo...........................

  • Was it just an urban myth that man city were going to name one of their stands behind the goal after Colin Bell ?
  • I don't see anything wrong personally in naming stands after Managers who have achieved great things with their clubs. Although I would be against things like toilet blocks being named after Pardew or Dowie . Come to think of it, maybe I wouldn't !
  • To add to my comment above: Football grounds are mostly unlovely places, where the stands are grim structures of corrugated steel with plastic seats occupied only by feral pigeons apart from a couple of hours a fortnight during the season. They make a bleak memorial. If you must do it, an interior public space (a suite, a restaurant?) would at least be more intimate - and even then certainly not while the man acclaimed is still alive.

    Keith Peacock dead then?

I ain't disputing that it's a common practice, just expressing my personal view that the physical ugliness of most football stands isn't much of a tribute to a well-loved hero.

    The Jimenez Stand then?

Yes! Named as a sort of curse.
