In 10 years time this thread will be outvoted with everyone saying Chrissy Powell who took us from 3rd div wilderness to Champions league final with Kerms playing at the age of 41 and scoring an overhead kick to win it against Barca. A parade down Floyd Road and a drinks bar being named after him.
Huge respect & thanks to Curbs obviously, but Seed for me. OK Curbs & Gritt had a massively uphill battle, but Jimmy Seed didn't exactly inherit a bed of roses.
There are so many different ways you can look at this - it may be unfair but if you swapped Curbs with Seed - who would be the most successful. The answer has to be Curbs as a modern day coach. Seed came from a time when tactics were very basic and whilst he clearly showed himself to be one of the best of his peers - Charlton were one of the best supported teams in the land. With Curbs- this man took Charlton to a point where they were genuinely - for a very short period thanks to Chelsea - the 4th best team in the country at a time when money rules. That is bigger for me than winning the FA cup in 1947 etc...

We were not one of the best supported clubs in the land until Seed came along - we were in Div 3 and going nowhere. Top 4 for a few months versus 3 seasons on the trot? PLUS Curbs had the benefit of a far-sighted chairman - who knows what Seed might have achieved with Richard Murray to back him (& maybe if WWII had not come along)

The West Stands development coincided with our promotion and establishment in the Premier League. Just an idea.
