Inverness have had a good season and looks like a match that has been chosen for football reasons - which is what ought to be th ecase with friendlies.

yes but on the assumption it's also to reward a former player, who didn't earn what players do today and assuming that his revenue from gate receipts, will be better met, by more attractive opposition and i doubt he gets paid much either?

I met Colin on Friday. After visiting the club shop I enquired at reception to see whether the club do any stadium tours. I was told that the club doesn't have enough interest for it and only did it on special occasions. However, a member of staff offered to show me the stadium from pitch side where he introduced me to Colin. Colin went out if his way to take me on the pitch and show me the new turf and pose for a photo in from of the North end. And it was his birthday on Friday as well.

I did a story for my MA Journalism class at Goldsmiths in the summer of 2010 regarding groundskeepers. I got to sit pitchside at the Valley and talk to Paddy for 20 minutes. The entire staff couldn't have been any nicer - he was especially impressed that I knew he played in the NASL. Nothing but good thoughts about him.

If I still lived in London, I'd happily go.
  • Heard on good authority that we tried lining up West ham for this, but the greedy f***ers wanted half the gate money. Villa were another option but also wanted too big of a slice. Nice to see the premiership rich boys giving something back to the lower leagues as usual. Is it really that much of a hassle for fat sam to drive through the tunnel that warrants 50% of a testimonial gate?

Oh well, Cally it is then.......................
  • Proud to say that Bromley Addicks are programme sponsors for this game.

  • With thanks to @CardinalSin I have bought a ticket for the game, even though I won't be able to use it. Very worthy cause - one of my favourite all time players.
  • Judging by what a number of posters have said, Colin is evidently a thoroughly decent chap. I will definitely be buying a ticket. Thinking back on his pacey skills on the wing reminds me that Danny Green has been a bit of a disappointment, after his impressive stats at the Daggers. He's got a good shot on him, and is capable of unsettling defenders, but I don't think I've ever seen him get past a full-back on the wing in the way Paddy routinely did.

Another feature of Paddy's day was the quickly taken throw-in in the opposing half, down the line for Paddy who would lob it in to the box for Killer. ("I never even had to look up; I knew where he'd be" were I think Paddy's words.) What really gets my goat these days is when we get a throw-in and spend ages deciding what to do - all advantage and momentum is lost. It should be instinctive. The agonisingly delayed throw-in may be followed by endless lateral midfield passing that you just know is going to end in dispossession. There was a bit too much of that in the second half at Welling for my liking. I missed our 0-4 home defeat to Brighton a few seasons ago and was looking forward to seeing them last term, having heard glowing reports of their style of play. But their game was built upon endless lateral passing at the back, hoping to draw us forward and leave spaces at the rear. I found Brighton as dull as ditch-water, and we quite comfortably drew 2-2.

Best wishes to Paddy for a long and happy life.
  • Had a quick chat with Colin and John Bumstead today, as they were both down at the cricket club where I play.
Lovely fellas both and Colin is most deserving of our support as a true Charlton legend.
  • Wasn't going to go to this game. Definitely will now. My first favourite, if you see what I mean.
  • I tried sending a message to Suthers but haven't heard back. I prob. got it wrong anyway. Was trying to ask about adverts in the programme. Anyone able to help please?

If that doesn't work inbox me.
  • Hope Colin gets a good turnout from the home fans. At our game on Saturday i discovered that some of our fans have organised a bus leaving Inverness at 11pm on the Friday night, thats dedication but i'll stick to my 7am flight on the day of the match :)

Thanks Henry. Nothing has pinged back yet, so it seems to have gone through.
  • Through my company I've bought 4 x Hospitality tickets for the centre circle suite, now we will be in casual attire with Inverness colours on so wondering if thats ok for the suite?

If its a dress code then we will happily sit in the stand, just wanted to make a nice gesture from the travelling support to fill Colin's kity up.

    Brilliant Guys. Good luck fellas.
  • Gutted. Can't be there due to a stag do. Will be buying a couple of tickets & looking out for other events, if planned, for Paddy.

    Oooooffftttt! Low blow! ;-)
  • Will there be a tiffin break at half time?
  • Some of our fans are planning on going to The Rose of Denmark for beers....any good?
  • I don't get it the 'only Inverness Caledonian' jibes. I think it's great we're playing them, from what I can tell a decent club with decent fans, anyway it's another team I haven't yet seen, so on that basis alone it is an honour.

Well it's for home & away supporters & is better than the away supporters pub.

Come out the train station & turn left down the hill (The Valley is right) & The Antigallican (away pub) is right there, 1 min.

If you want the ROD carry on to the traffic lights, still only 1 min, then turn left at the lights and walk straight ahead for about 8 mins.

    Likewise

  • a nice wee 7-1 win away at Arbroath tonight for ICT, cant wait for the trip to London on Sat
  • You'll get a warm welcome in the RoD. Good crowd, nice boozer with outside space. Enjoy your day and learn a bit about Paddy Powell - one of our greats.
  • I think we will be in RoD at some point
  • Looking forward to this. A home friendly (CHARLTON chip shop chips yum) and playing against a SPL side plus a testimonial for what seems like a now guy. What's not to like?
