Had this on Windows XP on my Compaq a year ago. The local geek shop wanted mega bucks to get rid of it as they claimed they needed to hunt through all the files on the PC to eradicate it completely. Sod that; it is over ten years old and needs replacing. All I did was create a new user name on the PC, transferred to it the files I wanted to keep and deleted the rest of the files in the old user name. This got rid of the problem and it hasn't re-appeared (I banned my son from using it). As it worked I created a 3rd user name so I could swap to that should it ever come back.
  • System restore to an earlier date...Sorted!
  • Working in IT I've seen this loads recently. Boot into safe mode with networking (as you switch on PC press F8, you will get a list of options, use the keyboard to scroll down to safe mode with networking) once loaded download the free version of malwarebytes, you can get this from www.malwarebytes.org, install this program and install the updates when prompted, then run a quick scan. Once complete it should find the rogue virus and select remove. Reboot your PC and the virus should be gone.
  • NLA's your man :-)
  • tried all these no joy
  • download malwarebytes onto a usb (from another pc if neccessary)

    switch pc off

boot into safemode (hit f8 when your pc is switching on and select safe mode)

install malwarebytes and run a full scan

    &

    bob should be your uncle!

  • I'm a big fan of SpyBot Search & Destroy which is a free download from http://www.safer-networking.org/ It's never failed me when removing Spyware.
