I thought the same, until I (begrudgingly) joined. But with half my family scattered around the world it I now get instant updates with pictures and maybe video of my family, instant messaging etc etc, so its invaluable to me. A great invention.

Hand Ball: See at the Olympics and been watching it on french TV. There's a reason the games end up 25-25 (even though its only a point a goal), because its just too easy to attack and hard to defend.... FFS!
I find it hard to criticise what people do and find interest in. I do some pretty sad stuff and people at work are always quick to laugh; I'm often the butt of the joke. But I don't mind that. In fact, I thnk it's funny too, especially as those who laugh have no hobbies.
Any examples you can share ?
I read play guitar (or try to!), am a budding astronomer and meet up with stargazing groups with my telescope, play video games and read comics. Sad stuff, especially for a 28yr old but I don't care.

Nerds are always interesting. It's the 'normal' people that are less so.
Nerds can be very boring. The ones with no self esteem and talk about star wars and never leave the house. Poor sods.
However the things that dannyaddick are nerd like but he lives his life by doing the things that interest him.

When I was a kid I used to collect stamps, had a model railway. Stopped around the time I got interested in music and girls. I have since transferred the need to "collect" things to music (have far too many records, and yes I mean vinyl), books (you can never have too many apparently, but you can run out of space) and loud shirts. There is definitely something in the need to have a set aim and make progress towards it. Is it pointless though? I knew a Charlton fan who was a real trainspotter, he now works as a consultant on the railways. A lot of things that count as "collecting", are actually mostly harmless, sometimes useful in a pub quiz. And others, like doing the 92 or going to all games in a season, is admirable for the commitment of those who do.

I used to collect beer bottles (only ones that i had drunk). Had them on display on top of the kitchen units and on shelfs in the downstairs loo when we lived in Well Hall Road. They now sit in boxes in the garage, wife not to keen on having them out after they have been in those boxes since leaving Eltham at the end of 2005.
