  • If i told my missus our yearly holiday in the sun was to watch Charlton take on St Mirren, id never see her or my daughter again.

Dunno how you lot get away with it or even attempt it.

Gary, gotta put your foot down from day 1 mate . You've blown it-submisive forever.
Nutshell. Or just get the other half into it and go together. When the dates are finalised my Missus will be online looking for hotels before I am.
Not even waiting for the venues, she has already been looking at our favourite Gib hotel...

    The Rock?
Gibraltar is a great place for a short break and wouldn't be an amazing coincidence that Charlton were playing when you were there.

Queensway quay is also a nice relaxed place to be in the evening - you can walk there from The Rock hotel.
  • Victoria Stadium is a Artificial pitch.

The first-team squad will travel abroad the day after taking on the Wings, and will first face a Gibraltar XI on the Wednesday, July 10th before taking on St Mirren three days later near Marbella.

I emailed the club several months ago re this but they did not know the details. Wouldn't it be helpful if the club decided FEB/MAR/APR time to give the fans a chance to watch the boys abroad and combine it with a week away.

Now I am committed to a week away with the Mrs near Alicante so will see how far away the Gibraltar game is and week away in Marbella in SEPT which I could have easily organised for this week but due to flight prices etc had to book early.

It takes around 5 - 6 hours to drive from Alicante to Gibraltar, did it about three years ago.

Yes, I wouldn't dare either. You are a long time dead!!!
  • This got me reminiscing about a day trip to Gibraltar at Christmas a number of years ago. A day was about enough, but the shock of coming around a corner on the drive there to all of a sudden see that spectacular Rock alone was worth the drive. As I recall, surprisingly, the Spanish don't see the need to sign the route to Gibraltar all that well, so in the days before GPS, it kind of snuck up on us.

The walk across the runway to get in, and the trip up top were highlights too. It's one of those places to see at least once in your life if you can, as its reputation precedes it. That said, a day was plenty...

The Costa del Sol all told though? Not much to commend it, save sun. Loved the pueblos blancos though.
  • Gibraltar is worth a few days if you're a military history buff. The museum is good and has many relics from when Gib held out in a 3 YEAR siege by the Spanish and French.
  • Does Operation Flavius feature in the military museum @Baldybonce? Might be a bit recent maybe......
  • good result that one BR.

PS no pics of the Mars Bar mate please !
  • Speak to my agent. ; )

Not something i think that Gibraltarians feel they should publicise nowadays.

Was in Gib for last June's Queens celebrations and the pro-UK stance is quite astonishing.
  • Was on the rock about 5 years ago, went past the ground, and bought one of their shirts up the high street.

Reminded me of Northern Ireland a little, spanish flags flying all over the tower blocks and building on their side, and then the Union flags over the other side of the runway.
  • I was in Gib last week as part of a stag do i bought one of those shirts for my little boy.

Does anyone know if the venues for either match have been confirmed yet

I think the Vic in Gib is a given, with the other somewhere 'near' Marbella. I'm looking to have a week from 6th July, rent a Villa somewhere near Mijas Costa and turn it into a nice weeks holiday around the Addicks.
  • Anybody got a Villa near Marbella to rent?
  • Nice one @The_President pal, looks like I'm driving down.

  • All sorted, flying out on 6th July, and flying back on 14th - having a weeks holiday on the CDS with the kids, and getting a couple of games watching the mighty Addicks while i'm at it. I always said i would see the Addicks in Europe before i pop my clogs !
  • Where you staying president? We can't decide where to base ourselves, esp as the venue for the St Mirren game is unclear.
We are thinking of flying into Gibraltar (2nights there) then driving to Malaga (few nights there) and fly home from Malaga.

Gonna rent a villa up coast towards Mijas Costa - probably La Cala, and then just drive down to Gib for a day trip. I spent a week sailing in Gib last year, so, its not too much of an unknown that i want to explore - simply going to drive across the border straight to the game, and then back out again. For the St mirren game, i'm not far from Marbella, so, wherever it is, i'm sure i'll be able to get there.
The only down side is that EN v OZ in first Test Match that weekend - so Villa will have to have Sky !
Then off to Fratton Park the following weekend when the 2nd Test is on !

  • Yeah, the Frontier q's can get a bit bad at Rush hour, with the Spanish all coming in to work in Gib (with 28 per cent unemployment in Spain, you dont have to wonder why). And also, the traffic is stopped if there are planes coming in to land.
But , assuming its an evening kick-off, then i'll come in circa 5, have some food at Queensway Quay, and then go watch the game and out (hopefully straight away) after.
  • For those going to Gib, i found the Tour of the Caves better than the cable car - although if you do go up the cable car my suggestion would be to walk down - so only get a one way ticket. I walked down (mainly because i forgot my brown trousers)

North Front is the international airport so I would assume its that one.
  • Thanks RZA. 51 years old and never booked a flight before..........

As long is the airport code is (GIB) in brackets then you have the right one :)

MOG, most people seem to head for the Rock Hotel in Gib, however, it doesnt have good ratings.
I was sailing there for a week last year, and one of the places that was recommended to me was Con Dios - very different, but you are slap bang in the Marina with all the bars and restaurants, and just around the corner from the stadium, oh and reasonably priced (apparently).
