Andy Hughes

Excuse me if this has come up before on the site, I'm not the most frequent user.

I seem to remember Andy Hughes saying he will retire at the end of this season? I may well have dreamt this, if i have, by all means do not even reply.

If he did say it, it was before his return from injury had such a positive impact of the team, in this case maybe he should play on next season?

Before he came back i had no idea he was capable of playing to level he did, lets face it - even in league one he was rarely used. However i believe i am right in saying he havn't lost since he came back, i cant help but think he has been a crucial part of that.

  • We never lose with Andy Hughes
  • I don't recall any talk of him wanting to retire - he keeps himself fit and has a couple more years at this level at least, whether he'll do them wearing a Charlton shirt is anyone's guess.

  • From meeting him last week and his interview in the programme, he has no intention of retiring. He is very proud of his unbeaten run at Charlton, and always reminding the other players about it!
  • oo i didnt know weve never lost with him. Must of been a weird dream then.
  • Rich Cawley has just tweeted that Powell wants to keep Andy Hughes with a player contract that also involves coaching/sport science

  • He was living with Hamer and Henry I think last season while he was down here. When he was leaving at the end of season he advertised to sell this next to new John Lewis bed he'd bought at the beginning of the season from. A bird turns up to buy the bed, he gets talking to her and finds out she's a single parent so give her this bed he'd bought a few month earlier for nothing, don't suppose it was a cheap old thing either.

Only a little thing but for me sums up the kind of bloke that he is.

Didn't he deliver it to her as well?

PS he wasn't living with me.
  • I was at the table when that story was told by Ben, he ended up giving away loads of furniture for free, helping with transporting it up to Leeds and then got whacked with a listing bill from Paypal! was definately out of pocket, nice bloke yes, businessman no! Hope he sticks around though, clearly a real asset to the squad from a morale pov
  • I heard it through someone else a few weeks ago, didn't realise it'd been told there as well. Didn't mention it was more than the bed, as I say sums him up.
  • "He gives away beds
    He gives away beds
    Andy Hughes
    He gives away beds"

Threw the chest of drawers in as well! Described as "the world's worst e-Bayer"
  • Glad to hear he's sticking around - the bloke clearly does wonders for the morale of the squad!

  • I'd give him a contract just to keep him out of the commentary box

I know I've been married a long time but isn't the idea for the man get the drawers off the woman?
  • Was he not just trying to get in her (his) bed?
