I'm so exciting for August. Can't the 2013/14 season start tomorrow?
I firmly believe that with appropriate backing, Chris Powell can lead us into the play-offs (or better) next season. After slowly finding our feet this season, he's turning us into a force to be reckoned with and although it's a tough division to climb out of (multi-millionaire owners and parachute payments galore), we give ourselves the best possible chance with CP at the helm.
Please please, a message to owners, find a couple of million down the back of the sofa this summer because Chris Powell is the man to make the dream happen.
There was a beautiful pass by Gower which led to the Jackson goal, threaded though the eye of a needle to Pritchard, the sort of thing I've been waiting for him to do!
Also, Button was desperate to stay on when it was clear he was injured, it's possible we could have conceded again during this period, as Button was hobbling all over the place.
Nice for one of our youngsters to make his début, I bet nobody expected it would be Pope. I wonder if he said a few prayers for Button to get injured...
Finally, what's going on with Wiggins' hair, it's shaved on one side but not on the other!
Posting without reading as usual. A sort of poetic, unreal, sweet, forgetful yet absorbing game. We were better than Bristol City and won pretty easily, all five goals were either interesting or excellent. I think our rhythm was a bit disturbed not having Hamer there, and Rhoys Wiggins being replaced early made things a bit awkward, I thought beforehand that there might be a sentimental last game appearance by Waggy and Hughes, but losing Rhoys was not something Chris had legislated for. We did actually hit the cross bar in the first half, and were very comfortable everywhere. There was one sublime moment when a City player fell as if tripped by the invisible man as Chris Solly went chundering after a ball, it was as if Chris had a mental tazer to sort the fellow out. Second half was good overall, but meandered back into end of season mode occasionally. Yann scored early, and it was an absolute beauty, well worth seeing on the telly later, it was such a balletic screaming volley from a decent way out, it could almost have been drawn for one of those old football comics, a goal that will stick in the memory and bring many a smile during the dull close season. Then we worked it down the left, cross, Yann, beastly and 2-0. Morrison did one of his things and it was 2-1. Seemed to affect Button, so later on we saw this years third Pope. Yann then chipped a beauty that begged a sublime hat trick, only for it to hit the bar, and goal machine Obika (who has been getting better) nodded into an empty net. A version of that Giggs/Solskjar goal in the ManU 3-3. I loved the forth goal because earlier there had been an almighty scramble where all of our players formed an orderly queue to slam the ball home whilst City players threw everything in the way (big credit to them for that attitude at that time), Jacko was one of the more unlucky ones in that queue. However Pritch broke down the right, had a really good chance to finish himself, but unselfishly played in Jacko to slam home the last goal of the season...as I said earlier, poetic. Lovely sunny stuff, and the team ethic displayed in that last goal, finished by our captain was a good cipher for our season, togetherness made manifest. After we stayed and were generous in applauding City off we had the lap of celebration, little kids, families, babes in arms, all so sweet, all so warm. Chris Powell took the mic, sounded emotional, and very happy, thanked everybody and said this was a point on the journey and he wants to get better and do more. Perfect.
Great report Seth, sums it up perfectly. A great end to a very good season (in the end) with loads of promise for next term. Just hope we can keep our stars and bring 2 or 3 quality players in to help us push on. Powelly so emotional at the end - I reckon he loves a) the club, b) his squad and c) us fans all as much as we love him.
Judging by the way Chris Powell gave Scott Wagstaff a warm handshake and big hug before he came on as sub, I think we can say that is probably the last time we are going to see Waggy in a Charlton shirt. A shame.

Matt Taylor doesn't think he will be at the club next season either
Was gutted waggy didn't score that chance. He will be so gutted too. It was obvious that's his last game and you could see he wanted it so much by pretty much going up front and you could tell by powells reaction he was dying for him to score.
A great day out for me, thanks as usual to those who came and said hello in the Lib, good to see @lancashirelad and mrs, met @suziesausage for the first time and of course @TCE, @HenryIrvine and @AFKAbartram. First half was a non-event, so with @TCE went to get a coffee just before HT.....queued for ages, second half kicked off and we were still queuing!! So we missed Yann's first goal which was supposed to have been a stunner, I'll have to watch it on FL show tonight now!! We played some good stuff in the second period but messed around at the back for their goal which ended up with Button injuring himself and he had to go off eventually to be replaced by Pope. Obika looks a good prospect, in my opinion, and would love to see him signed at least on a full season loan for 2013/14. City were well beaten and we could have had a couple more, but 4 will do. As for the lap of honour I think it was Waggy's last event as an addicks player, nice to see the WAGS and kids out there and as for CP's speech he was emotional and had a wavering voice when he was saying how he felt about 'Our' club and where he wants to take us........he is all Charlton and today he impressed me even more. So that's it from me until the pre-season in July.................Cheers everyone have a great summer see you all in a couple of months.
@flyingkiwiDK and others who weren't at the game or others who just want some highlights. I've found this video on youtube that has basically everything bar Yann's first goal (which is a shame as it was a god like goal) and it also doesn't show some of the fantastic build up play for the goals either but overall its pretty good :
THAT ladies and gentlemen is what Sir Christopher Powell brings to this football club.
How many times have we limped to end of season with a whimper, players with holidays booked and already on the plane, the fans glad its all over for another year?
Long may the new way last and if there is no money, s/t sales are down and we lose one of our more saleable assets just to keep our heads above water we will still be CAFC, underestimated, often overlooked and written off BUT SCP's CAFC.
Terrific end to the season. I was expecting 14th and 58 points before this late run came and put a big smile on every face. CP has over achieved. Slater may have targeted 8-12 place, but I don't think that was a realistic expectation with the squad we started with. On the other hand they didn't tamper with either the squad or CP, so hopefully everybody goes away with good lessons learnt.
The only regret I have is that we could have relegated the Wall.
Very nice way to end the season , all bad games fade away and we reflect once again, financial matters are for tomorrow, just think what could happen if Chris gets bigger backing and the valley has a few less empty seats.

Prague I agree with the sentiment but you really should know better!

nice way to finish the season off highlight for me was my mate Purvey Pete turning up with two young sons in the 84th minute , he knew it was an early kick off but the boys had a footy tournament or something , what a weirdo !
Yann magnificent as ever and SCP is the chosen one
target no.1 for the season stay up target no.2 for the season finish above the scum
jobs done
next season's gonna be tougher i think, the promotion honeymoon over and the not so bullish comments of RM the other night leave me a tad nervous
top two 0% .....3rd-6th 5% ....7th-12th 25% ..... 13th-21st 65% .... relegation 5%
Shame about the play-offs but considering the teams that made it in there today, dont quiet think we deserved to replace any of the four.
Exactly, we arent good enough to win the playoffs even if we snuck in. It would of been horrible to blag ourselves into a wembley final only to lose in heartbreaking fashion....
Who knows? Maybe we might have won an epic Wembley final? Noone gave us a chance v Sunderland ? Too much negative thinking on this forum.
Its not just about potentially losing a playoff, in our current state promotion might do us more harm then good. Id rather become a solid championship team, build up a good squad, get more season tix sold each season then get promoted when we are ready. If we managed promotion this season I feel that we would come straight back down, and heaven forbid endure a Wolves style relegation hangover in the following season....
I know it's fifteen years later, but I wouldn't say we were particularly well prepared for the Premier League in 97/98. We endured a relegation but came back stronger with a much improved squad and ran away with the Championship (then Division One) and that led to seven quite successful years of top flight football.
Any relegation from the PL has the danger attached of a Wolves-style hangover, no matter how well prepared you think you are.

The season is barely over and the wrist slashing has begun.
Let's see what shape our squad is in - whether players are sold, who comes in before the doom and gloom misery starts.
...promotion honeymoon? We had no such thing this season, all down to hard work and preparation.
