The Birmingham team that got promoted I think in 85, was full of thugs. The Coton/Harford story was always mentioned by their players. They also had a former Villa player who was a Birmingham fan. When he was playing for Villa he wore a Birmingham badge on his shirt, in a derby the Villa fans saw out and started abusing him so he kicked a corner straight into touch.
I have to agree it's Muscat did it multiple times a season, tried to take apart Bellamy twice if I remember right. Didn't think Fashanu was any worse than most big forwards of his era. Gatusso, was clearly doped up and drugged up more than most, still thought he was great. At least most modern doped up players use their energy to play. Michael Brown remember him for Sheff United in one of their cup games with Arsenal, Viera came out with his knee strapped. Brown went in opposite side to the ball, no way he could get it, and karate kicked Vierra on the knee. In an era when doing players like that was much rarer, it was blatant and never adressed by the media at the match.
Alex rae. Ben thatcher-nutter. Thatcher was the worst one i saw live, remember him elbowing David Ginola in the face because he thought he had a corner-seriously unhinged. Although it was Ginola and i'm sure plenty of people would have loved to be able to do that...
remember a game against birmingham at home early 70s ...it was more like a tag wrestling match ..our ex player Alan Campbell took no prisoners ,but Trevor Hockey was diabolical ...think he got sent off ...anyone remember ?
Muscat. The only player I would have taken great pleasure seeing him on the end of a nasty tackle leaving him with a serious injury. Ended the career of Matty Holmes who would have gone on to become a Charlton legend.
Jeez, that Elizabeth Lambert is a total psycho. (video in Tommy Dowling's comment here: http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/comment/1519260/#Comment_1519260) . The shot where she smacks her opponent in the face, hits her in the back of the head and kicks her at the same time, is almost impressive for the sheer co-ordination involved.
The rules have changed so comparing players by decade must be impossible. I'm sure we had some players in the 40's and 50's who make modern players look like saints. Of todays players though, Pepe of Madrid must be near the top.
Muscat for me....I have to see him on TV week in and week out these days as he manages Melbourne Victory......I want to punch the fucker each and every time, I despise the man.
I always thought our own beloved Peter Shirtliff had a whiff of psychopath about him. I can still remember a notorious 2 footed flying leap when he tackled two players in the goolies at the same time at Selhurst Park, his deliberate kneeing in the back of the head of a kneeling Leeds player in the St Andrews play off and of course the use of the oven hob to promote domestic harmony.

How he never seriously injured the guy is beyond me - a total head-case, and the biggest joke is, is that he is now a manager himself!!

What about the dirtiest player that's played for us?
Total thug and his sending off at Blackburn - cheered by the moron element of our fans - cost us any chance of getting something from the game.
