The best I can recall was Patrik Berger's goal for Portsmouth---the speed of thought, perfect technique and touch all came to together in an instant and it seemed that something was on once the ball sat up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=EzqcLRuMf0M
I remember a league cup game six or seven years ago v Blackburn. We were 2-0 up with about 15 mins to go and lost 3-2. Thompson scored an absolute screamer for about 35 yards at the jimmy Seed end. I just couldn't help myself and stood up to applaud. Felt a right prune. But was an absolutely beautiful strike.
If he was a good England player then yes. On the flip side went to Croatia, Macedonia, Estonia, Argentina in Geneva, Portugal in Germany Etc and could never bring myself to cheer Andy Johnson.
Funnily enough I always look to the away fans if we score a good goal or if we sub someone who's had a blinder. Just to see if anyone appreciates their opponent's work
