Not trying to get too optimistic but..............

Just had a quick look at teams who are above us and they got a hard set of fixtures left compared to what we have.

Bolton - Leicester Away, Middlesbrough home, Cardiff Away, Blackpool Home
Leicester - Bolton Home, Palace away, Watford Home, Notts Forest Away
Notts Forest - Middlesbrough Away, Barnsley Home, Millwall Away, Leicester Home

These 3 teams have got a tough round of fixtures to come and if we get a good draw at Cardiff we might stand in for a chance of a late surge in the playoffs.

  • I think we'll do it
  • Wonder how many tickets we'll get for Wembley? :-0

Spoke to a Palace fan today on the phone today , he didn't sound too happy when i suggested we were coming for them & could bump them out of the playoffs.

I think we need Leicester's results to be: WLLW

That way, if we win all four of our final matches, Bolton and Forest need to lose only 1 of their other three to take to it goal difference.

Brighton only getting 3 points max from their last 4 would help too.
  • We would need to win all four games for any chance. As much as the 6-0 has given us, I can't see it I'm afraid. A top ten finish would be an outstanding effort from what is essentially a League 1 squad.
  • I just hope we end strong and stay atleast in the top half, top 10 would be fantastic.
  • Difficult to say what exactly is a tough fixture in this league these days.

For us to have any chance we need to win all 4 games in my opinion. We'd also need Leicester to beat Bolton tomorrow night (or at least draw) and Forest to draw or lose.

Then we'd be 4 points behind with 3 to play.

I agree with JT, top 10 would be fantastic, especially as 3-4 weeks ago we were worrying about relegation after the Millwall defeat.
  • nothing wrong with a bit of optimism sausage, you crack on!
  • win at cardiff, game on
  • win at cardiff, game on

Agree with this. Play-off talk is getting played down by Powell and Jacko. Unsure if they are trying to manage expectations or are playing mind-games ... (maybe both!)

However, I believe we need one or two more seasons in this division to build before we can't put together a strong promotion/play-off bid, that leaves us in a position to maintain PL status for ore than one or two seasons should we make it their. No fun watching your team get tonked week in week out.
  • It's a big ask, but as others have said, if we get a win vs Cardiff (a massive ask in itself) and favourable results elsewhere then who knows.

Were we to some how sneak in, in order to get promoted we'd likely need to win 6 of our last 7 games which added to our current run would mean winning 9 our last 11 games. I don't have the stats to back it up, but a run of form like that would probably be one of our best ever runs, especially at the end of the season. There's been little evidence so far this season to suggest we've got that level of consistency in the side. Nice to dream none-the-less.

In a way though, I'd rather we had a low key, but solid end to season rather than make the play-offs and lose as it'll help to manage expectations, both in the stands and in the board room. It'd be a different story if we could win the play-offs though....

I said this in another thread but its relevant here also - This squad demolished league one, with one of the highest points totals in the league's history, and are now placed in midtable in the championship. As such it is in no way deluded to disagree that we have a fundamentally league one squad. Sure we are lacking in certain areas, but this squad have proven themselves to be well above league one quality.

  • Forest have got the easiest of games. Leicester and boro aint up to much these days then hopefully they batter millsmall
  • I dont think were ready for the prem but getting to playoffs beating palace in the semis and then a day out at wembley would be great
  • Everygame is game is difficult, lets just see where we are with 2 games to play. possible, but unlikely still about 10% chance imo
  • win tonight and we have done the double over leicester and cardiff 2 favourites for promotion at the start of the season it is frustrating some of the points weve dropped but i think why not lets have a crack at playoffs its money for the club and great for our fans.
  • You can bet that whatever the official club line is on the possibility of the playoffs, in reality the whole club will be aware of that possibility however remote. If nothing else it will mean our players will be taking things very seriously and not allowing the successes of the last couple of weeks to let the season fade out now that safety is assured. This time tomorrow we will know just how remote or not the playoffs actually are.
  • If we can get a win tonight then we will be in with a very good chance of making the play off's.

Honestly though i do not feel as a club capable of competing with premier league standard clubs despite the amount of money we would get if to say we was promoted
  • 4 Games left.
3 of which I think are winnable, if we take 3 wins then I reckon it could be interesting.

If there are potential new owners circling (all rumours and guess work from various sources) then a newly promoted Charlton would certainly look a very interesting prospect, even at the so called price that TJ is supposedly holding out for (£30 million???). The Sky money along with any potential new investment could make things interesting in regards to our chances of staying in the Prem, IF we get there and it is a very very big IF!

If we did, by some miracle, get promoted I'm pretty confident the asking price would increase significantly!

Parachute payments alone are worth £48m (over four years) to any club relegated from the Premier league and that's after TV revenues, ticket prices, extra sponsorship etc.

  • Would have to beat Cardiff tonight and then see if other results have gone our way - if so, then you never know !
If we did beat Cardiff, i wonder if we would be the only side to do the double over them this season ?
  • Posh have already.
  • Posh have already.

Amazing ! - shows you what a strange season it is !
  • I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea here.

I want us to do it, I really do, what a story it would be.

But on the other hand I dont want us to do it, if we get to the play off finals (unlikely I know), my idiot of a nephew has booked his wedding that day, yes a bloody sunday and yes play off final day. I wont be able to go. I missed the 98 play off final, and it would kill me to miss this one (if there is to be a 'this one')

Cost my mate 1600 Quid on an acca.
  • We will have a good idea after the Cardiff game. When we first got promoted under Curbs we were not ready for the top league, but we were sensible with our finances didn't sack our manager when we got relegated and were strong enough to get promoted again with a squad that had the quality to stay up for a few years.
  • Charlton have a way of crushing dreams so we may well lose tonight bad, but you never no Cardiff will be nervy
  • Can see a nervy start from Cardiff but their quality will show in the end.

Cant see 9 points from the remaining 12 being enough for us to get into the Playoffs.
