Its usually a bit sparser down the front for Charlton away games ..... But new ground and all that meant being sold out these problems would occur unfortunately We just haven't got the personality as a fanbase to all stand for the match
What like 5000 of us at Fulham ? 3000 at Palace ? 3000 at Millwall ?
Lets not bring up Fulham! If anyone can remember the thread on the same topic after that game we could be here a while....
Great Day though (apart from the result of course!)

I'd like to see those sort of figures at the northern grounds...
Give me the 400 Up at tranmere on a Cold winter afternoon any day.
Thanks for the namedrop pal, crowd at Hartlepool last season wasn't to shabby either
Should hopefully get a fair few for Barnsley, could be a big game the way the tables shaped up...
Hartlepool last season was probably one of my favorite away days. A long way to go, a great performance, Friday and Saturday on the piss in Newcastle...perfect!

You forgot the quick pint with Robbie Elliot at HT!
I sympathise on occasions but people don't help themselves.
There was a lot of standing initially last night and we were a row in front of an 86 year old who was being accompanied by people telling everyone they had no respect etc (if we had sat down, we'd not see anything). One of our group went out of his way to get a steward to see if there was a few seats near the front (which there were) but the old fella and his mates preferred to keep on moaning rather than move.
It's a difficult one but people don't seem to want/be flexible.
That's Richard Redden for you. Some people are "professional" complainants.
Nobody will ever solve this one until safe standing brought back and option of seats available for those that want. Used to happen all the time, watching the few in the seats clapping as the rest of us jumped around when we scored. Mind you now when half cut and game shite ( HTFC away Last season) slumping half awake in seat quite comfortable, must be age.
I can understand why they don't do it, and it would be an additional bit of workload etc
But it would be nice, when buying away tickets if you could specify your section of the away section, so that if you have young children, or want to sit you are allocated a seat in the front part, whereas if you want to stand and chant you have a section at the back. That way the standers don't block the sitters, who force people to stand all game who don't actually want to. That way the singers can be together as well.
I was happy to stand at Fulham, but really didn't have a choice as was in the back row!

Agree. As an occasional singer and North Lower kind of fan - I'm an 'about 15-20 rows from the front kind of guy' who likes a sit down but will stand for corners and generally exciting bits because I can't help myself - it would be good to be able to specify. Generally been ok at away games when I can get to them and never felt compelled to move from my allocation, but can't be doing with standing all game these days - especially as whoever is in front of me will invariably come from a land at the top of a beanstalk. Fulham last year was the obvious exception, but that was something else entirely!
If I see a 80 year old bloke standing on the train, I will give him my seat. If I see kids near me, I make a special effort not to swear - basic respect in my book. When it comes to football it amazes me how supporters think it is ok to not be considerate of other fans.

I respectfully disagree. Lots of People are trying to make an atmosphère that the Players can actually benefit from. No comparison.
we're one of the few clubs of Our size that dont stand. Thats why we get laughed at by other clubs for being so quiet.
I have no problem with standing or not. But some people can't stand for the whole game (for a variety of reasons and not just because they own flasks and rugs as implied by some) or they don't want to. However, I hate to hear our own fans being rude and disrespectful to others. Surely people can ask politely and respect that we are all there to support the team in our own way? I like to sing, stand at times and generally get behind the team but don't lose sleep over how other clubs see us!

I am gutted we get laughed at - not. They can laugh all they like, impressing other fans doesn't rank high on my list of priorities. Do agree we need to create an atmosphere, but a special effort could be made so that the first of the standers maybe swap with those behind. All I am suggesting is some consideration rather than accuse people of being from the flask brigade - like it's a crime anyway!!!!

we get laughed at? If so, I couldn't give a toss to be honest ... would still rather be Charlton than any other team
From my point of view, it was a shame when everyone around me sat down after about a minute, but I was in row G, so that was that. On a lighter note, I said to my daughter, "You should stand up when we chant 'Stand up if you love Charlton'." Her reply, "But I don't love Charlton. When they chant 'Stand up if Charlton is your favourite team' I'll stand up."
Always think we should sing " Sit down if you love Charlton "

I see your point stonewall, but on Tuesday at Brighton most of our fans were sitting ... and both Hamer and Powell stated how loud we were and what a boost our crowd gave.
Definitely better standing, totally my preference, but an atmosphere can still be created in any circumstances if we want to do it

the club is told by the home team in which order to sell tickets so no real flexability for the club to do this
In my essex days watching Colchester I stood at every game, and preferred it. Its easier to keep warm in the winter months, easier to generate an atmosphere, and I appreciate the 3 or 4 quid I save for the ticket. When I (very rarely) sat at a game I found it restrictive....
My girlfriend on the other hand (who supports Chelsea) wasnt brought up following a team that had standing areas, so all shes ever known is sitting at football. Ergo everytime we go to a Charlton away game where standing is an option, she always wants to sit.

Having visited Layer Road on a couple of occasions, i would stand then rather sitting in one of their "B & Q" stands, that could fall apart at any given moment.

Plus half the away support was lashed at Fulham!
I'd much prefer it with we all held hands.
Amazing how we took less than half to à promotion game than we did last night.
Away etiquette
I thought the home fans would stay in the ground, so we could the first train back to Lewes.

I don't care what other clubs think either. It is an indication though of how much support Our Players get due to us being a sitting club.
At Most other clubs this isn't à question of debate. Getting behind the team comes first. With us it seems that comfort comes first.

would need to be this week, and ideally include stats etc
