Addicks fans who originally had no ties to Charlton

Following on from the addicks who live in London thread, are there any Addicks who have absolutely no connection with the area or through family connections who follow us? I know there was the South African fella trying to get Millwall tickets, but is there anyone else on here who supports us but has no connection in any way? And why did you start supporting us?

    I was born in Spain, brought up in Horsham,Sussex. Went with a mate to my first game at Selhurst when we were the away team I hasten to add. Turned out in Palaces away kit of all things, as the ref felt our away kit clashed also, 85 I think. I ended up going more than my my mate !!

    Came down from Scotland. Went to watch a few teams in and around London, Milwall, Chelsea, Spuds, Fulham, Palace, dons but didn't like any of them. Sort of stuck at Charlton just after the big return. They're no Jags though.

    I was born in Leicester, brought up in Essex with a family of Leicester City supporters. Use to watch Colchester Utd while in Essex. When I moved to London I ended up in Woolwich and Charlton were the local team, went to a few games, kept going, season after season watching the Addicks passed and now I have a season ticket!

    Came to Plumstead from Belfast in the Eighties, adopted the club as my second club (Liverpool was the first at that time), got caught up with the lowest of the lows and the highest of the highs then was well and truly addickted at the 3-3 home game vs the Reds and its been the only club for me since then!

    Come from a non football culture so no family encouraging. Supported Chelsea. Sister went out with a football hater but his brothers supported Charlton and took me to matches. One day I realised I had emotion over Charlton and not Chelsea. I've been depressed ever since ;-)

    Back in 2003, when I was about 12 years old, my father went to London on a business trip - they went to the Valley to watch a game versus Leeds. With him home he brought a Charlton scarf and a hat, as well as the Valley Review with a poster of Scott Parker. I knew Claus and Stephan were playing for Charlton, as I'm a Dane myself, and as I began to follow the games, I grew closer to the club and have followed the club ever since. I have only been to London once, and unfortunately it was in the Summer. I was supposed to go back with my father during this spring, but studies has kept it tough to organize. I really hope I can attend my first game next season though!

    Grew up supporting Spurs due to Hoddle. Never went to watch them though. Then moved at the age of 11 and lived opposite a boy of the same age who followed Charlton. This was when we played at Selhurst so started going with him and just got hooked very quickly. Always liked the underdog and our story and history got me straight away.

    Heard a Charlton fan on the radio once with a thick Manc accent. He said he came from Chorlton. By the time he'd realised that Charlton weren't representing his hometown it was too late, he was hooked.

    Moved down from Edinburgh when I was three, hearts through and through then my best pal in the world told me I was getting a season ticket with him rather than being a millwall fan.......the rest is history

    Moved to the area, mate used to lend me his season ticket now and then................was tricked into attending The Final.....................etc etc etc

    im from ireland. about 10 years ago my dad and i travelled over for a weekend tried getting tickets for many matches eventually ended up with tickets for charlton sunderland (1-1) the atmosphere of the fans that day endeared me to the club

    Went out with a girl, first date was the Leicester cup game back in... 2004? Broke up with her a few months later, still go to the Valley and now have a season ticket. I ran into her a few weeks ago at the ground and realised exactly how badly I messed up my priorities there...

    That's Abs, can be seen in the Lib sometimes, otherwise a fair few away (including tonight). Always in a hat, cool guy. Think he does post on here actually.

    Was bought up in Bognor Regis in the 70's/80's but didn't fancy supporting Liverpool like all my school friends seemed to do, and despite trips to Nyewood Lane to watch the mighty Bognor Rocks, something seemed to be missing. Not sure how it happened but Charlton seemed to take over and I began to spend hours in the front garden pretending to be Derek Hales. First game I was taken too was away at Portsmouth where we got stuffed (I think) 0-4 with a really bad display by whoever was in goal for us that day....guess that prepared me for a lifetime of stress and disappointment puncuated by moentsof extreme joy. It's certainly never dull being a Charlton fan.

    No ties at all. Just a morbid interest in what was a very odd club at the time. Came over from West London to watch Simonsen's debut in 1982 and stayed with it. The club's all quite normal now compared to back then!

    Watched Luton as a kid ( I was brought up in Biggleswade ). I Moved to Thornton Heath when I was 20 and started going to Selhurst when Luton were away and Charlton were at home - the idea of watching Palace just never appealed, and I knew that Charlton needed the support. They were also in Division One, and I had a work colleague who was an Addick, which probably helped.

    After a year or so of courting two clubs at the same time, I realised that my new love meant more to me than the old one, so dumped the Hatters ( although I still have a lot of affection for them ). I persuaded my Charlton based company to buy an exec box at Selhurst and so got to know Chris Parkes and Steve Sutherland well, and then got heavily involved with The Valley Party. The Addicks have remained a major part of my life ever since, and despite the miles, the fans and Charlton Life still make me feel part of a very very special club.

    Easter 1984 0-2. Allegedly a game in which we "didn't try too hard."

    Grew up In Slough, supported the Rebels - still do - but at school had to have a pro team. Picked Spurs, this was in 1960. Kinda supported them until I moved to Eltham. My son was mad keen on football and I was persuaded by my ex wife to let him choose his team, this was in 1992. And he chose Charlton as it was the nearest team. I took him to Selhurst a few times and just fell in love the addicks.
    Back then they were really trying to get kids and the community involved even more than now and they were great.
    I remember going to the park and the only Charlton shirt there was worn by my son, with plenty of WHam, Newcastle, Blackburn, Utd, Millwall and Liverpool shirts on display. Despite being teased he stuck with them and many of his mates moved over to Charlton as well.

    1st generation Canadian as both my parents and their families are from Guernsey; my dad played in Guernsey and I played some "soccer" growing up in Ontario. A couple of work mates told me they followed a team called Charlton Athletic. One of their friends was from SE London and had introduced them to the Addicks from which a Supporter's Group was formed.
    I was excited to be following a team that was not ManU days, a few Charlton's matches would be televised in Hamilton and the
