If we could afford a keeper, or any other player, from the Premiership I wouldn't say no but as we don't have a pot to piss in I doubt it will be an issue.
No, Ben Hamer is absolutely fine. We're fortunate to have a keeper as good as him.
This.
Even Button is adequate for this league IMO - but Hamer is definitely better. He generally performs some worldly saves for every little hiccup. I think we need to stop the blame game and realise that we have a top-notch keeper.
For the last 15/20 minutes of every game Hamer shows some pure class.
If we were in the Premiership, then maybe, but its a small possibility. Hamer has the potential to go all the way if he applies himself and cuts out the silly mistakes he sometimes makes. As it is though, he is more than capable in this division, there are very few keepers in the Championship I would exchange him for.
I think it's one area we are in good shape. Both Hamer and Button are young and I think both will have decent careers. Hamer slightly edges it for me, but that's probably due to having a bit more playing time at the moment. Not worried when Button is in goal either.
I think Hamer will be OK he needs to up his concentration levels, improve his command of the area although that was better second half on Saturday and stop bawling at everyone when he makes a mistake but overall I like the lad he has passion for the club and that counts for a lot.
I personally dont think Hamer is good enough as he makes far too many mistakes imo. As for Button I havent been overly impressed so far but would like to see him a few more times b4 passing judgement. A premiership keeper would be great but with a premiership keeper comes premiership wages so I cant see it happening.
Still young for a keeper. Won't reach his peak until early thirties so not surprised he will make the occasional gaff. All part of the learning experience. If he stays with us for the next few years I would expect him to develop into a decent keeper as got lots of raw talent in his locker.
Same goes for Button but as pthers have said Hamer has more game time on his side so at present is slightly ahead of the curve.
If we could pick up someone like Kelvin Davis from Southampton on a free, to provide some experienced competition to Hamer, then yes. Both Hamer and Button are relatively young and inexperienced, for Keepers.
