Team Passion

Why dont the team show passion in local derbys any more.

Comments

  • Give it a rest! There was passion until their goal took the stuffing out of us. I don't hold with 'the team don't care' line, of course they do! Haynes looked disinterested today but the rest were trying.
  • It's a lack of ability, not a lack of passion.

This. Passion is never an issue when a team is winning. Another game the opposition miss their chances and we take ours and the good result is down to team spirit and passion.

Millwall lacked ability too but were mentally stronger than us and made subs at the right time.
  • I thought both teams didn't really treat it like a passionate local derby from the off today. They had their minds on bigger things like Wembley whilst we had ours on ________?
  • Anymore ?
  • we didnt have a shot after they scored

Agree that they lacked ability, just got lucky with their chances that we gifted them. They didn't make the mistakes that we did and that's why it finished 2-0. Not 'showing passion', our defensive mishaps gifted them two goals.

Millwall got the first goal - I think that counted for a lot. It could have been very different, you could see our heads drop. But then our team were contending with an awful home record and the whole weight of history of Millwall defeats. They weren't.
  • thought we showed more passion than them. we won most of the loose balls and tackling back was excellent. its just this home jinx that is relentless. The ball just wont drop for us in key areas

  • O well new manager in the summer, roll on may.
  • Home fans didnt turn out in force either and couldnt believe all the empty seats?

Palace and Millwall seemed to fill their ends when we played them which i think is odd considering we consider them to be big rivals and they dont us to the same degree. Poxy day all round.

Playing Millwall is something most people dont look forward to. Not really family friendly are they?
Most of them would fit into the 1970s' quite easily
  • The whole "passion" thing is the most overdone response from a Football fan if a team lose. Unless you know the team personally then you cannot say they lack passion.

Some of the tackles going in during the first half were great.
  • They tried till the first then offered very little afterwards, Disagree with Powelley congratulations for them getting to Wembley in his programe notes ........................WTF
  • New manager!!!!! NO new better taller players YES!! Harriott looked very very skilful today which is great to see! And not

Deep down SCP probably thinks lucky so & so's about Millwall getting to Wembley and probably to himself doesn't think congratulations at all. In his programme notes he just has to tell a little white lie because it's good for the media.

  • Maybe it would be good to see what the players are like in the dressing room after the game.

    Perv

  • There was no lack of passion. Definately not. Lack of skill and most importantly inability to take half chances.

  • Seriously would like to know if CP played against the spanners when he played for us.
If so, was he motivated because it's our derby ?

    Agree completely.
  • half empty valley does'nt help, show some bollox missing fans and turn up.dons tin hat etc
  • Watching the highlights on the Football League Show was pretty embarassing seeing how empty the stadium was for such a "big derby".

I bang on about this sort of fixture to my non Charlton supporting mates, simply because I can't help it. Needless to say I had a couple of texts from them commenting on poor attendance.
  • What was the crowd ?

    Me too.
We made poor decisions and players failed to do their jobs for the goals, but they showed no less passion than Millwall.
What concerns me is how we drained of confidence after the goal, how the substitutions rendered us less effective and who is going to score the goals to keep us up.

We were never in the same division during his time so no.
  • The attendance was awful ground was more empty than it has been for a while it's only because Millwall took 3000 that the attendance was respectable

Around 15,000 home fans before you take away those that didn't turn up because we know 18,514 is the official attendence. But the reason why it is so low in home areas is because of the ticketing restrictions where you needed to be a ST holder or red card holder. Nobody without and ST or red card could just turn up. For example look to that 4-4 draw in December 2009. How attenddence was actually down as we had restrictions that day as well. Obviously the home form, early kick-off and policing restrictions did not help either.
