Sky Sports

Not that I am bothered as wemdo terribly on Sky,but why is it we only been shown once on Sky this season where as teams like Leeds, Wolves and Watford have been on sky at least 4 times this season.

I am pretty sure clubs get TV money so if that is the case it is pretty unfair.

  • This is a good point .... I thought you had a mandatory number of games?
  • we're live in Sweden.
  • Yes, it's unfair. But at least it's "only" a five figure sum in the championship, unlike the Prem where their little favourites get a couple of million more over the course of the season than the smaller clubs who get less exposure. If we were doing better we might get a bit more coverage.
  • Sky sports seem to show Hull, Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester and Derby on repeat
  • Seems strange especially as hardly any armchair fans will lower themselves to watching football outside of the Premiership so why would Sky care if we are just a boring midtable side.

Hopefully one more game before the end of the season for us fans based away from London.
  • Palace have been on quite a few times haven't they?

I'm not thinking about these armchair fans, it's the income the club gets from Sky.

Me to, im just saying if none of the armchair fans care about football outside of the top division but Sky want to show Championship games, then you would hope they would show all teams fairly as it will not effect their viewing figures much if it is a team in the top 6 compared to a boring mid table side like us this season.
  • I emailed sky about this a month or two ago they said "we are contracted to show each team 4 times a season so i'm sure you'll see charlton again this season". looked at the latest live fixtures only 2 more chances to show us, 'boro and bristol so dont know why they lied about the 4 times.
  • Hope they don't move Boro, got trains and hotels booked for a weekend in Newcastle!!!

  • I imagine the contract clearly spells out penalties/payments should a team be shown less than 4 times. Let's face it, we've been mid-table all season, neither threatening a run into the top six or a plummet into the relegation zone (no matter what the doom & gloom merchants on here would have you believe), so not the most juicy proposition for a televised match.

However, Saturday's early kick-off would have been an idea one for them to show, but they're showing Everton v Man City as the early game, and Derby v Leicester as the late game (what was it somebody said about Leicester and Derby being on TV all the time?!?)
  • also, don't know how many times leeds have been on this season, must be nearly 10, and they've just been mid table all season. always favouring so called big teams living on past glorys.

So they've booked all their live games up until that point? Have been holding off on Barnsley trains for that reason, thinking it could get moved.

If they haven't picked midweek fixtures then there's a chance Brighton or Cardiff could be on, both are fashionable clubs.

  • Everyone has to have at least 1 home game I belive as there was a big fuss made about Huddersfield v Hull being moved meaning less away fans could trabel but the Terriers were threated with points deductions!

Its true Leicester have been on the most - on against us and Birmingham before the end of the season.
  • I started a thread like this some months ago, but nobody has managed to come up with an answer. If the above post is right & Sky have said that we are contracted to be on 4 times, then someone had beeter tell them that we are running out of fixtures as there is no way we are going to be on another 3 times before the end of the season.
  • Is it possible that the minimum payment is based on 4 appearances on tv, regardless of how many games they actually televise, and you get extra for additional matches?, that way they don't have to actually broadcast deeply non televisual teams.

When I e-mailed sky what I asked was " as a sky sports subscriber i see that you are showing crystal palace and millwall again on good Friday. will you be showing charlton again this season?" that was they're reply but look at the wording.
" We are contracted to SHOW each team 4 times a season" so as that's clearly not happening does the club get some sort of compensation as if that's correct then sky's in breach of contract?

  • Is it location specific? For example could they sell the feed on to somewhere else and class that as being 'shown'? I've watched us three times this year, Forest away, Palace away and one other I can't remember right now on cable tv here in Bangkok.
