Championship Next Season.

With the extra funds available to the Prem. clubs next season, it's hard to imagine that the best talent in the lower divisions will remain with their current clubs. Neither will the Prem clubs have the need to off-load marginal players to compensate. The off-season will likely see transfers into the Prem with no off-setting downward transfers as in the past. Charlton fans, along with other Championship clubs' fans, are not satisfied with the quality of football they are watching now, what's the future standard of football going to be in this division?

  • The standard will be good, but teams will be more and more inconsistant as more and more of their squads will be made up of loan players. Expect both the prem and league clubs lobby hard to increase the number of loans allowed. That way the prem clubs can buy up any talents and then loan it back out so the players actually get game time.

It will also be a very effective method of ensuring prem teams maintain their status. The teams coming up will inevitably be made up of a high percentage of loanees, who's parent clubs will refuse to loan back out to the promoted teams the next season. End result is the teams coming up will need to buy 10 players just to fill their squad and no matter how money they get won't be able to build a team capable of staying in the prem.

Depressing, but the only way I can see it going unless the FA grow some and force a restructuring of the way money is spread around.

I dont think so LG. The Prem clubs already have to name a "squad" from which they have to choose, and even in these money grabbing times, I cannot see up and coming players doing a "Winston" in preference to actually appearing on the pitch - it may be a case of being loaned back to clubs as as happened for a while now, but 50 player squads where everyone is in with a chance of first team football is not going to happen in the immediate future.

Edit: Sorry Andy, written while you were posting yours. Agree with what you say.
  • Well all the money didnt help Wolves or Blackburn.... I think its a terific knock when teams come down from the prem as we have seen with several slowly falling into league one ... the teams that have got it right, are Charlton when we got out atttiude right and only offloaded Mills, West Ham, Newcastle for example... I would say the dangers of having mercenaries still on the payroll or mercenaries knowing that you have a bit of prem money left is very high and very dangerous...

This league is always open it seems, and I think we will see that again next year....
  • We will be fine. We can just bring a complete Italian team in on loan next season and make the play offs. Doesn't seem to be anything against doing that in the championship

when you look at where wolves and blackburn are at the moment it makes our season so far look a whole lot better.

Look, if we stay up it has been a sucessful season.

It's progress. That's what we all wanted in August and that's what I believe we willl achieve.
  • Doesn't matter how much money they have, premier league teams can still only name a 25 man sqaud.
