From the OS
Michael Smith has joined Colchester United on loan until April 6th, the club confirmed on Friday morning.
The striker has featured just once for the Addicks first team this season, when he started the Capital One Cup match at home to Leyton Orient on August 14th when the O’s progressed via a penalty shoot-out.
Smith could appear in as many as seven Colchester games during his time with the club, starting with Saturday’s fixture against Crewe Alexandra at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The Newcastle-born forward found the net four times while out on loan at Newport County earlier in the season and has been in impressive form for Charlton’s development squad – scoring once and claiming two assists in the 3-0 Professional Development League 2 - South clash against Swansea City on Monday.
The powerful forward also spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley in League Two last season and scored a hat-trick against Gillingham before his spell in Lancashire was cut short due to injury.
Good move for the lad. He is stepping closer to a possible first team place.

And free up wages for Gower.
Expect this won't be the last loan move this week or next.
I hope Crouchy is going to be big for us in the future.
Only that we know that Fuller and Haynes have hamstrings made of straw.
I think in terms of recall clauses that he has to be there for 28 days we then get a 24 hour clause.
Good boy Crouchy - he's going to be big for us one day.
