Is this the early nineties team who were actually comfortable at this level of football and never in any relegation danger unlike this year. What does that make the current lot?!
That's actually a great point, we are actually - in terms of on field quality - back where we were in about 1996.
The quality of our squad was decimated from 2007-2009.
THAT goal he scored against Bristol City in the FA Cup was my first ever Charlton game.
And agreed for someone to just say "shit" is pretty classless considering the guy scored some very important goals for the club and made over 100 appearances.
I liked him despite all his failings. I have fond memories of players like him who made up the teams of my youth. Yes they were crap but they were likable and I didn't have miserable realists on internet message boards pissing on my chips after every match. Probably a good job otherwise I'd have given up on Charlton by the time I was about 12.
He was better than Bradley Allen as well who we sold Grant in order to buy.
I couldn't understand why we sold him at the time. After persevering with him for years he seemed to finally be getting a bit of consistency to both his general play and his goal scoring then we sold him in order to spend more money on a QPR reserve. His career went pretty quickly down hill after us mind you.
Definitely agree in hindsight I'd rather have had Grant than Bradley Allen... was so excited when we signed Allen too, mainly through being young and thinking that anyone from the premiership (or with a fancy foreign name) was obviously a top player.
Also, due to being in awe of the premiership, I went absolutely mental when Grant scored in the cup against Sheffield Wednesday.
Remember Old Trafford 1994 .... when unbelievably, 2nd tier Charlton were in the FA Cup quarter-final?
It's still 0-0, Kim Grant breaks out of the centre circle with the ball, one-on-one with Schmeichel who comes racing out of his box and crashes straight through poor Granty.
Schmeichel gets a straight red, not knowing that Granty would have missed anyway.

Wasn't it the 96-97 season we started terribly, and dug oourselves out of it, but were too inconsistent, especially at home to get anywhere near the playoffs? Sound a little familiar

From memory, we finished 14th or 15th?
The next season we finished 4th, playoffs and winning at Wembley.
kim grant kim grant kimmy kimmy grant he thinks he can we know he cant kimmy kimmy grant or so it went..
Jesus, it did, I made that up... didn't think anyone would remember it though.
Despite the words of a limited lyricist I actually really liked Kim and and as have said previously that after that Notts County game wrote him a letter apologising for our supporters (and we get worried about a few boos these days).

Now enough time has passed, it's time to upgrade Kim Grant to a Charlton legend.
;o)
he always tried and thats all you ask ..unlike 2007-2009 period as above
would be played out of position wide right as he had a bit of pace

Good touch but a fart in the wind kind of player.
I respect all opinions. If he thinks he was shit then he can say that.
