Got nervous watching that again! A privilege for all of us that got to see that match in the flesh. I hope my kids get to see a game as legendary as that one, they don't come about too often.
A lot of challenges in this game that would be straight reds now!
I remember the bloke behind me being pretty covinced Newton was going to miss his pen,he was my favourite player at the time so I think I cheered louder when it went in than I did for any of the goals earlier
Even now those three Super Clive goals look pure class. How the media would be crowing if Messi or RVP scored them. I always smile when I see the suited players and backroom staff flying in and over the top of the pile of played at the end. My best footballing day ever.
.......that was the best 12:50 minutes spent this week. Thanks for posting AddickFC81. Like most on here that were privileged to witness first hand would admit, simply the best footballing day ever. Feels like yesterday!
........also makes you think how great Kevin Phillips would have been for Charlton, had we signed him; still scoring hat-tricks at the same level 15 years later. For me, he was/is the number one player we should have signed. I wonder how close we ever truly got to signing him................does anyone here have any knowledge of that? Airman?
There's really nothing else in the world that gives me quite the same feeling as re-watching those highlights (or the full dvd!), no matter how many times I do.
There'll certainly never be another game that a part of me is still celebrating 15 years down the line.
