Or is it just me? A couple of family members from Newcastle are coming down for the weekend and for the game. They asked if I could get them a room at the Bexleyheath Marriott for sat and sunday night and as i was in the area I went in to book it.
The receptionists looked at me as if I were mad and told me that they could not take bookings in person but that they had to be done by phone. They then passed me a telephone and a number so that I could call the booking centre in Mumbai to make the reservation. The following conversation was along the lines of
.."where are you calling from?
"the lobby of your hotel in Bexleyheath",
"I'm sorry but we don't appear to have a hotel in Bexleyheath"
"But I'm standing in it",
"are you sure as there's nothing on the system",
"Pretty sure yes",
"Which state is that in?"
It's in Kent in England",
"oh, you're not calling from mainland USA then?"
"No, I'm in England, the UK",
"Ah, I've found you now, how do you wish to pay?"
"Cash?"
"I'm sorry, we can't accept cash over the telephone,"
"No sh*t Sherlock, can I pay in cash at reception?"
"That means you will have to go to Hotel Sir"
"I'm in the Hotel now",
"Oh, so why didn't you book direct at reception?"
Honestl, you couldn't make it up!

nearly as good as someone i knew who rang up charlton yesterday, wanting to book a pre-match meal and seat for the Spurs game only to be told by the unhelpful lady, 'nah, can't do it, but you can hire a box for two grand'.
Is all pre-match hospitality and Legends booked up already for the Spurs game ?? If not, the club has just lost six customers.
