Home Form Becoming Psychological

edited March 2013 in General Charlton
We all know that the home is not want we want to be this season. Going into the Sheffield Wednesday I really thought we were beggining to turn the corner at home. In the league we had only lost once in seven home games since the Boro home game. (Not counting the Huddersfield cup game in this). But we had only lost once in 7 home league games and we had a good win a against Blackpool in the previous home game followed by that great away win at Blackurn and if we had just held out against Wednesday it would have meant back to back home wins for the first time this season. If we had achieved that I think we would have finally been able to make The Valley a fortress. However a lucky looping header and a lucky deflection put pay to that.

Since then the home form has slipped again and I think it has now got to the point that it must be affecting the lads psychologically and subconciously. The longer the home goes on the lads will become more and more tence and obviously so will the fans. The players probably need the fans to be less tence but then again the fans need the players to be less tence. It's a vicious circle. One thing for sure is that it totally reflected in the Burnely performance.

Sadly there is no mirical cure. We probably need a home game where we scrap awin and there will be relief and then somehow find a win in the next home game. We just need to get lucky from somewhere and we just must all stick together and pull through this.

  • For all the reasons stated above, that Sheff Weds game was vital and failing to win it after having been in such a strong position was a huge psychological blow that we carried into the Palace game. Not making the required changes needed to stem the attacking flow of Wednesday could well prove to be Powell's biggest managerial error. I just hope he and us don't end up getting punished in the worst possible way.

Must admit that Wednesday game has played in the back of my mind at times and thought... "Hope we don't spend the whole summer looking back on that Wednesday game!"
  • On the Friday before the Millwall game Powell should drive the team round in a coach for 3 hours and then put them up in a hotel for the night.
  • The one I'll be waking up in a cold sweat over if we go down (which I don't think we will) would be the Birmingham game, tbf

and Wednesday at home as well
  • Margins are narrow and in this league we seem to be coming out on the wrong side.
  • It's that old Curbs mentality of getting men behind the ball at home, the fear of the opposition scoring on the break.
Well, they're currently scoring at will so why not go for it and get visiting teams on the back foot for once.I'm fed up with teams passing it about like they owned the pitch.Talking of which,do we not spend any time on passing in training? We belt the ball at each other, put it into open space, give possession away as if it's in the rules and the opponents just decide they can walk all over us.Burnley started shakily and then realised they had nothing to beat and their confidence quickly grew.Positivity please.
  • How about training and playing on a pitch that is as rubbish as the one that team is supposed to win games on, on a Saturday ?
  • I think the word "becoming" is redundant don't you?
