Baby Bent lining up his big move away...

well, that's certainly what his new big name management company would have us believe:

Darren Bent, one of England’s most promising young strikers, is to become the first high-profile signing for the Wasserman Media Group (“WMG”) since the US company’s recent takeover of the SFX Sports Group, it was announced today (Tuesday).

The 23 year old Charlton Athletic hitman, joins top players in the WMG football stable including Steve Gerrard, Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Owen, Scott Parker, Jamie Carragher, Emile Heskey, Jonathan Woodgate, Jermaine Jenas, Alan Shearer, Tim Cahill, Michael Dawson and Wes Brown.

Darren, who joined the Premiership Club from Ipswich in June 2005, has made a name for himself with the England Under 21’s with nine goals from only 14 appearances.

He was rewarded with a call-up to the senior squad for the friendly against Denmark in 2005 and earned his first England cap as a starter against Uruguay in the March 2006 friendly at Anfield.

Darren has been linked with various other clubs and was unlucky to miss out being a member of the England World Cup squad for the finals in Germany last summer. WMG leading agent Neil Fewings will take responsibility for managing Darren.

WMG’s Chief Operating Officer, Sam Rush said of the signing: “Darren is a young and hugely promising player and has all the characteristics of the sort of individual we want to work with at WMG.

“He has a fantastic track record of goal-scoring at every level he has played at and we believe that WMG has the resources and the skills to help shape Darren’s career and future in a very positive way.”

I flipping hate agents! Tossers the lot of them. They have the resources and skills to shape his career, who do they think they are. Charlton will shape and hone his skills.
  • Completely agree, Canada. These are the contact details at the bottom of the press release if you want to let them know your feelings directly!!

For more information please contact Stuart Higgins, 020 8977 1594, mobile 07836 378870 or stuart@stuart-higgins.com
  • I'm presuming that contact stuff is in the public domain, ie a press statement??

Lets be honest here- Darren will go if we are relegated-in this case, the big issue is that we get the maximum transfer fee for him and send him on his way with a sincere thanks.

What we don't need is an agent encouraging him to move on if we do stay up.
  • They are f*cking a*sewipes aren't they!! Still apparently the modern Premiership player cannot take a dump without consulting their agents.
  • Yes, Stanmore, it's a press release on the internet:

    Bent's new agent
  • Don't panic guy's and gals........

Read through this list carefully - and you'll know, for example, that Gerard, Carragher and Wes Brown are all one-club men - the agents are negotiating new contracts with their PRESENT clubs.

After we've stayed up, Baby Bent might not be in a rush to sign for Spudz, after all.
  • If Baby Bent wants to stay lets keep him we will need him to get straight back up.
  • basically, i would not be suprised if we have a deal with Darren that Parker failed to agree to. ie, see the season out with us, do your best, and we won't stand in your way in the Summer if you want to go.

And we can't really ask any more than that IMO.
  • I can't predict the future any more than anyone else - but it seems to me, that Dazzler actually likes it here despite his long term ambitions. It's been a stop-start season for him and, providing we can offer Premiership football, we may just get another season out of him.

Get your prayer mats out.... :-)
  • spot on AFKA - I wouldn't begrudge the boy a move to a "big" club he deserves it top pro.

As for agents a lot top players could do worse and listen to Gary Neville and not have an agent and let the PFA deal on their behalf and PAY them the going rate and let the money stay in football.
