Jimmy Seed, Sam Bartram & Eddie Firmani autobiographies

Just had someone come in my office and put these on my desk having seen them in a pub last night, just needed a £1 charity donation.

Anyone read them? If so, pretty decent I'm presuming? Haven't come across them before, imagine they're a good insight into the football of its time as well as being three legends. Found a tenner walking in too, back of the net.

  • The Firmani one is the best IMHO.

All will seem a bit dated in style now but that's part of the appeal.

    Well worth £1
  • Sam's book has some nice anecdotes throughout especially tours to South Africa and Canada during the true Glory Days, his lifestyle seems a million miles away from today, missing his own wedding reception (he married the supporters club secretary I think) because we had a game that afternoon for instance.

I think Eddie Firmani's is the best written, what a fascinating character and a shame it wasnt updated with his New York Cosmos time as that would make a good read.

Jimmy Seed for me contained a couple of priceless nuggets about his Great War service, I also have a book he wrote about "modern football tactics" in 1947 which has chapter call "he who hesitates looses"

All in all a lovely little box set that any true addick should own and nice of your mate to leave it for you!

I regret not being old enough to see any of them play but happy to listen to my dad/grandad talking about them, I know there was a Valley Reminisence Group that met in the early 90's and again I would have loved to have sit in.

  • I've got a original box set in the loft somewhere.
