Yeah I remember listening to an interview last season with Mickey on charlton live and he said he was now working for the PFA. One of the good guys Mickey Bennett. Good player but was never quite the same player after his bad injury against OPR in 1988.
  • I'm sure most would agree (except Joe Allon) ;)
  • One of my favourite players from the Sellout era. Always wondered what happened to him - never caught the interview on CL. Good bloke - my mate was a mascot back when he was playing and he & his parents were thrilled at how nice he was, and how much time he took with them during the pre-match kickabout and after the game.
  • Started brilliantly for us, great pace and drive but never the same player after doing his knee.

Great little period in 88-89 with our 'Black Magic' front line of Bennett - Leaburn - Williams - Mortimer.
  • He showed great pace to get over to Leaburn to try and calm him down after he came round during the Battle of the Bridge.
  • I follow him on twitter. Comes across brilliantly. Always chatting about the work he's doing.

He replies to everyone and always seems pleased that fans remember him. Comes across as a lovely guy.
  • Had a great Guinness 6-a-side comp, then done his knee the following saturday at Sellout Park.
  • One of my favourite charlton players. Gutted when we sold him, brilliant run/cross for the 1st goal in the 3 1 at norwich sticks out.

Does he watch us now ?
  • My first proper season supporting, him and Mortimer hooked me for life!

  • What's his twitter account, Curb-it?

Maybe he'd be a good guest for Bromley Addicks. Could invite Morts too.

Yes he does. Not to regular but I know he has mentioned a few games.
  • Cheers Clem
  • He is worth inviting long with Morts, we did an audience with Mickey, Morts and Carl Leaburn, brilliant night, he's a lovely fella and loved his time at CAFC.

Yes, that's right, he was great in that tournament.

I remember that game when Bennett got crocked, I know we started brilliantly and Carlo was a changed player - even shooting from distance - but we went 1-0 down before Gritty scored the equaliser in injury time with a blast from the edge of the box.

Thinking back it might have been QPR.
  • DIdn't he also say that he was gutted to leave Charlton and never wanted to . Class act that cared about the club and along with Morts , Leaburn , and his ex youth team colleague Andy Ansah still does.

  • i remember when he came back he got a great reception and after the game said how chuffed he was that people remembered him ! never the same player after that injurt tho
  • One of my fondest remembered days was when he returned to us, he seemed so chuffed to be running around at the Valley again. I also remember one night at Upton Park when he tormented West Ham in a cup game.
  • It was against QPR that he injured himself badly in, stretching for a high-ball in their penalty box, one of those innoculous injuries that was no one's fault. I seem to remember when he eventually got back to full fitness we sold him to Wimbledon where he spent a season or two playing to a system that didn't suit his talents.
  • You sure BFR? I thought it was a 50-50 ball, possibly even 60-40 in the other guy's favour.
  • Yep, it happened in front of me. A real nothing challenge for the ball, I can't remember the other player making even contact with him, anyway he went down in a heap and was out for around 18 months/two years.

Pretty sure it was Alan McDonald.

It was Alan McDonald...in the 2nd minute. Mickey Bennett had little chance of winning the ball but still went in.
  • I loved Mickey during the 80's. Super little player.
  • Watched Mickey Bennetts debut at age 17. He was the first Charlton player who was younger than me. That was the sad moment that I finally realised that I would never, ever play for Charlton.
