I'm not going to bother posting any more as any view contrary to some of those on here is met with silly comments.

Don't let the ignorant bullying types on here who seek to stifle any view other than their own win ME14addick.

    Carry on posting.

Your opinion is as valuable as theirs and the fact that they have to descend to personal abuse emphasises the paucity of their argument in many cases.

    My view?

Go to the toilet before the game, go again at half time and go once the match is over. That way you don't get in the way of anyone else during play.

It's not rocket science just old fashioned respect, manners and consideration for others.

    Thank you Len.

I've just been reading the thread on the 'pictures of people the police want to speak to' and was very tempted to post on there but know that if I do I'll only get more insults. I have decided to stay quiet, much as I would like to agree with some of the posts which are currently attracting abuse.
  • You're back?
  • Sounds like they have it sussed in Oz. You can drink at the Rugby and Cricket yes.
  • Not personally worried about during the game But I do find it frustrating that you cant take a drink to your seat before the game. Doesn't seem so bad at home but at some away grounds it's just so cramped. it would also allow clubs like Exeter and Yeovil to sell drinks where there is no room at the moment.
  • Just found out Ebbsfleet are allowing people to drink their beer while watching the game this season. Nice idea if you fancy a cool one on a hot day. Prob not on a wet Tuesday night in November :-)

If served in plastic bottles, they'd be getting thrown every 2 games. Millwall were fairly lax on letting you drink at your seat and ended up with most getting thrown to and from the home end.

Rubbish!! They've never been lax at all. People try sneaking booze up and quite often 15+ stewards march up to sling em out. It's been that way for years. The only times bottles have gone on the pitch have generally been big games when more wallies turn up & think it's helpful to throw a green Carlsberg bottle.

  • Bothered not a jot, cause I'm teetotal
  • No way.

There will always be a few idiots who ruin it for everyone. 99.9% of supporters would be fine, no problem at all, but if you were allowed to drink at football matches there would always be a few drunk idiots.

It only takes 1 or 2.

2 people out of thousands is such a small ratio, but it's enough to cause trouble.
  • Charlton fan, what's the 94 in your name stand for?

  • Actually just read what he wrote - so nobody turns up drunk anyway? Nobody's had a drink before turning up at the ground?
  • Alcoholic custard pies could be the answer.

I think this could be a new food range :)

  • Personally I don't drink at the ground because the beer is shit but in principle I have no problem with people having a beer watching the match mind you I would get a bit peeved if I was constantly disturbed by people going for a piss.

You already are allowed to drink at football matches, just not in view of your seat.

The additional alcohol consumed, for those who want to drink, is probably 1 or 2 pints, 3 max. (But who'd want to buy 3 pints of piss at football prices anyway)

Personally I reckon it would dampen the atmosphere as people holding a pint will not be jumping out of their seats to berate the ref/opposition/home team for fear of spilling too much.
  • Have cinema type seats with a holder for your drinks

Those types are pissed before they even get to the ground so another pint or 3 won't make that much difference, personally it doesn't interest me ( but I wouldn't have a problem with others drinking), I prefer to go for a beer after the game (usually the Plume) where I can get a decent pint.

    have to agree.

also I don't want to have to keep bringing a spare set of clothes cos each time we score I get soaked.
  • I don't, personally, see what the problem is. My wife and I, often, have a glass of wine while watching the TV at home and neither of us has ever thrown a glass at those sitting in front of us!
    :-)
  • this unfortunately goes back to the difference between football fans and other sports fans. Such as rugby and cricket.
as was stated above cricket fans drink for over 7 hours in the sun and very rarely if ever get nasty. why are football fans so different?

Really good point mate. I was at Lords recently for the Ashes test. Beer, wine, spirits etc on tap all day and not a spot of bother, aggressiveness or behaviour beyond anything other than banter. Really refreshing atmosphere to be in. Sadly, it just would not work at football due to the inherent mentality and attitudes of some (not all!) wanting to get totally bladdered and cause a nuisance. Yep, call me a kill joy or whatever, but the day at the cricket was bang on, not least of all because of the fans' behaviour. Wimbledon is the same. For whatever the reason (roots, fan base?) football is different.

  • Hip flask.

  • There's sometimes a bit of aggro in T20 matches, you get a different crowd and maybe they drink quicker? Most footy fans will be well behaved but a few will spoil it
  • Interestingly, a guy in the East Stand walked to his seat holding a pint of lager. Mind you there was another 30 mins til kick off.
  • Could I get methadone at my seat ?
