Things in Football that are wrong.

Whilst there are many things that i believe need to be addressed in football , one of which is line technology, tonights game of Celtic v Juve highlighted one of my major bugbears with football right now in all the holding and shirt pulling in the box for corners and free-kicks.
All it needs is for the referees to tell the captains at the beginning of tha game that they will give a penalty then all this will stop.Surely a simple solution to one of the most frustrating aspects of football.

  • You would be looking at 10 pens a game!

    Leave it as it is
  • Agreed, just for the fun of the first weekend of matches where every game had more penalties then shots on goal.

For the first few games - but would soon stop onve teams knew they couldnt get away with it.
Has to be better than the cynical play we see now.
  • Watching the highlights again now and juve tonight were extreme to say the least.
  • I love the way that Townsend and co are acting as if this is some imported Italian virus, rather than something we see every weekend in every league in England.
  • I've never seen it quite so obviously in the English game. I believe that the ref was right to give a yellow card, but I don't understand how a yellow card offense in the penalty area can somehow not result in a penalty. If you don't want to give a penalty, don't give the yellow card, and if you do - surely you have to award both.

I was also confused as to how two incidents of pushing resulted in yellow cards, but yet, the rest was ignored, no second yellows for exactly the same crime.

I know it's a difficult position for the officials - not wanting to send players off for minor fouls (if the pushing can be called that) but it's the only way we'll see it out of the game.
  • If both the attacker and defender were booked, why would it result in a penalty ?
  • Wasn't Rufus sent off up at Newcastle in our first year in the premiership for a similar offence, no penalty was awarded as ball wasn't in play ie corner hadn't been taken.

Yep. Oh, the irony. Send Rufus off for that all the while Captain Elbows nudges his way through 90 minutes unpunished

Couldn't remember if that cheating git was involved, thought he was, pleased that you confirmed it. That was a good away day, great draw considering.

He did that against ANY team he played!
  • I was in the west stand and saw clearly the infamous rescinded red card incident between him and Fortune, that was the time when I lost all respect for the FA bunch of absolute arseholes the lot of them, apparently the linesman who saw the incident wasn't asked about it during the appeal procedure, amazing what clout being the captain of England has.
  • wasn't it Dabizas that was involved?
  • There was a Bromley Supporters Club meeting (Henry will probably remember it) with a referee as the guest.

I cannot remember which one (dermot?), but he implied everyone in the ground knows it happens but it's a unwritten pact between the players and ref that its ignored.

I cannot remember why he said its allowed? Cannot be policed?

That's the way I remember it.

I'm a bit biased towards Italian teams but really didn't think it was that bad. Morrison was doing it a couple of weeks ago.

  • Media and Sky in particular OTT coverage of Liverpool. Treated as a top 4 club when only a top 10 side, but clubs like Everton and Swansea get far less coverage. They haven't beaten a top 10 side in the league this season FFS!

Liverpool are on Sky every weekend it seems!

  • The distribution of money between the divisions. The gap between Premiership and everyone else is so massive now that it actively encourages clubs to adopt ridiculous financial strategies in the hope of getting to the promised land.

And on the radio we always have to go "live to Ainfield" to hear that bloody awful song 5 minutes before KO.

  • Overreaction to last night. Celtic were outclassed. Juve weren't even straining. Could've destroyed them further.

This is what's wrong! Commentators who don't know the laws! It's all very well saying give a pen, but if the ball isn't in play the ref can't!

Agreed, just for the fun of the first weekend of matches where every game had more penalties then shots on goal.

Why would someone taking a penalty not take a shot at goal?

  • Im sure we got a pen against mk dons when the ball werent in play. Headbutt to kerms & Mk fella got sent off.
  • Making an injured player go off the pitch while the player who commited the foul and injured the other stays on.

From memory, their keeper punted downfield, then there was a tussle, the ref blew up just as the ball was going out for a throw.
