Today we were happy 4-4-2. We defended well for 90+ mins and got ourselves infront. Everyone was happy. Then Powell makes a strange decision and changes our formation to 5-4-1 with BWP up top on own. We then had too many players defending and getting in each others way trying to clear the ball. It was always gonna hurt us. If we had kept it 4-4-2 we would have had the 3 points. I just do not trust powells decision making during matches. Usually If plan A doesn't work, then we have no plan B but today plan A worked and there was no need for him to think of a plan B.
Yeah, sacking managers has been working so well this season. We're currently above Bolton, Huddersfield, Ipswich, Wolves, Barnsley and Bristol City, and only one point behind Forest. Yes, some of these teams are now on a run, but not all and for some of them it won't last. I'm frustrated we lost 1-1 today, but hope that the team starts to get some discipline once we score. You could tell at the end how gutted they were, especially Kermorgant.
The problem being frontline is that changing the manager won't convert the chances nor will it stop what is obviously something I'm the players heads about conceding late
We had enough chances today to win 3 games let alone 1
Had the performance been woefully inept or without shape or character then yes your argument would be valid as it is and how I see it that is not and was not the case
Was anyone moaning about Powell out last season? Or after beating cardiff, watford, or any other win this season? And are theses fans that want Powell out the same ones who called for curbs to go cos we couldn't get into Europe... judge how things are at the end of the season. If we do end up going down (i doubt it even though recent results don't look good) then start your witch hunt. Every time we lose its the same crap. There are always bad runs of form, if you are going to complain EVERY time the team loses then buy a man utd shirt.
just hope this result doesent have a negative affect on the players for the coming games. feel powell will have to lift them off the floor after playing so well and not getting all 3 points. dont think we could have asked for anymore cmmitment wise, but we are learning the hard way.
It's not 'Powell tinted glasses' though. It's common sense. CP is getting the most out of the players and he's Charlton through and through. What, you want to go back to somebody like a Dowie or Pardew who will f**k us and chuck us? Unbelievable. Be careful what you wish for for all those hinting at wanting him out.
Powell out. This is becoming a joke. We/Powell clearly aren't learning. Go 1-0 up and we shit ourself again.
I assume you wanted Curbs out too, a few years back? So we could move into the next level?
Appreciate your opinion. But think its slightly far fetched...
Tools like frontline would have booted Curbs out in 96/97 when we finished 15th in the second tier. It's a shame the club didn't seek his astute opinions back then, we could have avoided all those tedious years of being an established Premier League side.
Absolutely dread coming on here on a Saturday evening if we haven't won, some real weirdos knocking around.
Charlton life fans, seriously! If your going to call someone an idiot try and be constructive, even if it does sound idiotic which is does.
Frontline (and any other fans calling for Powell to be sacked)
I admit at times (during Curbishley's reign) I thought he should have been sacked because I thought some of his decision making was poor at times and he did not have a plan B. This was mostly before our playoff final season so I clearly made a mistake and now Curbs is a legend in my books!
Since then I have learned from this and perhaps your on a learning curve as well.
I would rather look at the league table and players performances to judge on the managers ability. Pardew had no motivation of the players at all and our league position was poor hence why he was sacked. Powell has shown he clearly has motivation and respect of the players and we have been getting some decent results this season. If we drop down the table further and get closer to the relegation zone then I will agree with you but I don't see what better we can do at the moment at this stage.
We did not invest in the summer that I hoped we liked to so this was always going to be a tough season. We got players who mostly not had much experience playing in the Championship regularly so this is a learning curve for them as well as Powell.
Powell is inexperienced but he will eventually learn from his mistakes but. he certainly has a Charlton heart which is another reason why we should not let him go. For Christ sake if we can keep Pardew for so long after an awful run and watching some of the worst performances i have seen us play then we can certainly keep Powell for some time with the crop of players he has got.
I think the board needs to give Powell as much funds as possible so we can invest this summer so we can push on further otherwise we are in for another tough season.
Also, it would cost too much to sack him anyway and we would definitely not find a better manager for the same or less money.
So just for that reason alone all the idiots who want him out can get the stupid idea out of your heads and try supporting him instead of slagging him because he isn't going anywhere.
